🚨 Mentor PD Seeks Public's Help in Investigation Involving Local Resident
Police are asking for public assistance with an ongoing investigation involving a local resident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities or share details with Mentor-on-the-Lake PD, who will forward the information.
Late Monday night, a man came onto this resident’s front porch and stole our three electric scooters right in front of their Ring camera. He took the first one and then returned for the others about 25 minutes later, so I suspect he may live nearby. For reference, we’re located near Hopkins and Lakeshore by the bait shop. If anyone nearby has a Ring camera, the incident happened between 1:35 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on 11/12. Let’s get this guy!

🐱 Keeping Pets Healthy: Why Portion Control Is Key to a Happy Life
Betty Boop, an affectionate rescue dog with a bit of a wild side, found her home in St. Louis after being returned to a rural shelter. Her new owner learned the hard way that sharing too many treats can be a problem when a friend pointed out Betty’s “sausage roll” shape, sparking a realization. While feeding pets can be a loving ritual, it’s essential to set aside any guilt and focus on providing them with a balanced diet to keep them healthy.
Betty’s owner noticed signs that her extra weight was affecting her health—slower movements and difficulty on stairs. Overweight pets, like people, face risks like joint damage, diabetes, heart disease, and breathing difficulties, all of which affect their quality of life. A chart used at Betty’s vet visit confirmed she was carrying extra weight, highlighting the need to make some changes.
To keep Betty’s weight under control, her owner adopted a simple method: measure every meal carefully according to her ideal weight of 60 pounds, as listed on her dog food packaging. Instead of guessing portions, a measuring cup ensures accuracy, even if Betty sometimes gives her bowl a hopeful lick. For occasional healthy treats, Betty gets carrots or other low-calorie snacks.
Pet owners should aim to keep treats at 10% of their pet’s daily calories—a guideline that helps avoid excessive weight gain even from “healthy” snacks. For example, a 20-pound dog should get no more than 32–40 treat calories a day, meaning an entire banana would be too much. Tools like the USDA Food Data Central can help owners stay mindful of calorie counts.
In the end, monitoring portions and snack calories is a simple yet effective way to give pets a healthier life. And for those who worry about seeming too strict, remember: controlling portions isn’t about restricting love but about ensuring a longer, happier life for your furry friend.

🏀 Cavaliers Rally Past 76ers to Secure Sixth-Best NBA Start at 13-0
The Cleveland Cavaliers extended their unbeaten season start to 13-0 on Wednesday, overcoming a shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers squad to secure a 114-106 victory. Trailing by six points at halftime, Cleveland rallied in the third quarter, driven by an energized Darius Garland, and held off the Sixers’ attempts at a comeback. This win preserves Cleveland's position with the sixth-best start in NBA history, with the team now just one win away from tying the fourth-best season start of 14-0, achieved by the 2002-03 Mavericks and 1957-58 Celtics.
The Cavaliers’ impressive start adds to NBA history, though they remain far from the all-time record held by the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who started their season 24-0 and ended with a league-best 73-9 record. Ironically, it was the Cavaliers who halted the Warriors’ historic run by defeating them in the 2016 NBA Finals, bringing Cleveland its first and only championship.
In this latest win, Garland stood out with a 13-point burst in the third quarter, helping lift Cleveland from an early deficit. Garland ended the night with 25 points, six assists, and five rebounds. His backcourt partner Donovan Mitchell overcame early shooting challenges, finishing with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists, sealing the win with three late-game three-pointers that squashed Philadelphia’s final rally attempts.
The Cavaliers' early-season success has been a team effort, including significant contributions from rising center Evan Mobley, who has shown remarkable improvement in his fourth season with the team.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, faced the Cavaliers with a lineup missing stars Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey due to injuries and scheduled rest. Backup center Andre Drummond also missed the game, leaving rookie Jared McCain to lead the scoring charge. McCain delivered his season-best performance with 34 points and 10 assists, but Cleveland’s relentless offense proved too much for the undermanned 76ers to overcome.
