🏈 Undefeated Mentor Prepares for Semifinal Battle Against Canton McKinley

McKinley vs. Mentor

Canton McKinley Bulldogs are set to face the top-seeded Mentor Cardinals in the Division I, Region 1 semifinal tonight at Ken Dukes Stadium in Medina. Both teams have traveled different paths to reach this pivotal matchup. Mentor, undefeated at 12-0, comes off a powerful postseason run, including dominant wins over St. Ignatius (31-7) and Strongsville (33-0). Canton McKinley (8-4) earned its spot after outplaying Normandy (35-7) and securing a close 35-32 victory against Massillon Jackson.

Mentor’s offense is led by standout rusher Jackson Farley, who added another 153 yards and a touchdown last week, boosting his season total to 1,610 yards and 21 touchdowns. Quarterback Scotty Fox has also been formidable, amassing 2,471 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, with reliable targets in receivers Justen Hodge and Austin VanHuss. The Cardinals’ defense, anchored by Caden Clair and Spencer Barninger, will aim to limit McKinley's offensive threats after allowing just seven points across two playoff games.

The Bulldogs, rebounding from a regular season-ending skid, have picked up momentum with back-to-back playoff wins. Last week, McKinley displayed resilience by overcoming a halftime deficit, largely due to a high-energy third quarter in which they scored 28 points. Quarterback Kam Montgomery had a dual-threat performance with over 200 passing yards, two touchdowns, and additional rushing gains. Running back Nino Hill led McKinley’s ground efforts with 97 yards and a touchdown.

The winner of this semifinal clash will advance to face the victor of the St. Edward-Perrysburg game in the regional championship.

🏈 Undefeated Lake Catholic Set for Semifinal Clash Against State Champ Glenville

Glenville vs. Lake Catholic

Tonight starting at 7pm at Riverside Stadium in Painesville, two powerhouse teams, Glenville and Lake Catholic, will clash in the Division IV, Region 13 semifinal. This matchup is eagerly anticipated as Glenville, the defending state champions, go up against an undefeated Lake Catholic team that currently holds the top spot in Ohio’s Division IV rankings.

Lake Catholic has surged through the playoffs, averaging 37.5 points per game and showcasing a potent offense. Quarterback Frankie Trinetti has been instrumental in their success, passing for 2,698 yards and 28 touchdowns. His top targets, receivers Ace Peterlin, Patrick Radigan, and Cross Nimmo, have made critical plays throughout the season. On the ground, Jimmy Gibbons has been a consistent force, amassing 893 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Glenville, while carrying three losses from earlier in the season against highly ranked teams, has displayed a formidable defense. The Tarblooders held West Branch to only 150 yards in their last game, with standout performances from linebacker Cincere Johnson, Division IV’s district defensive player of the year, along with defensive linemen Jonell George and Di’Marion Gill. Glenville's defensive strength will be a key factor as they aim to neutralize Lake Catholic’s explosive offensive plays.

The victor of this game will advance to face the winner of the Perry vs. Streetsboro game in the regional championship. With Glenville's disciplined defense and Lake Catholic’s high-powered offense, fans are sure to witness an intense battle for a spot in the finals.
