Mentor to Collect Yard Debris After Snowstorm

The City of Mentor has announced plans to collect yard debris left in the wake of the November 21 snowstorm. Residents are required to contact the Public Works Department to schedule a pickup no later than Friday, December 6, 2024.

To arrange for collection, property owners can email [email protected] or call (440) 974-5781. Debris must meet specific requirements: limbs should not exceed six inches in diameter or eight feet in length, and all materials must be placed at the curb for collection.

This initiative aims to assist residents with cleanup efforts following the storm, ensuring a safe and efficient process for debris removal.

🚨 Ohio Offers Free $20 Lyft Credits for Thanksgiving Travel

Ohio Offers Free Rideshare Credits for Thanksgiving Week

State and county programs in Ohio are teaming up to provide free rideshare credits for Lyft users during Thanksgiving week, offering a safe alternative to driving under the influence. The initiative, funded by the Governors Highway Safety Association, allows residents to claim up to $20 in Lyft credits through a special promo code.

The Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) is rolling out this program statewide, with credits available from Tuesday, Nov. 26, through the weekend, coinciding with the Ohio State-Michigan football game in Columbus. This initiative emphasizes the importance of planning sober transportation during the holiday season to reduce the risk of drunk driving incidents.

To claim the credit starting Nov. 25, users can visit otso.ohio.gov/lyft to receive the promo code. Adding the code to the Lyft app is a simple process, but users must redeem and complete their ride within 24 hours of applying the code. Unused credits will be reallocated for others to claim the following day.

This program is part of a broader effort to protect communities and promote safe driving practices during the busy holiday period.

🛣️ ODOT Warns of Peak Thanksgiving Travel Times in Ohio

Plan Ahead: ODOT Highlights Worst Thanksgiving Travel Times in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released its traffic projections for Thanksgiving week, providing insights into the busiest travel times in the Cleveland areas and other cities across the state. See graphic below.

In Cleveland, the projections vary slightly. This past weekend was projected to see mild to moderate traffic on the roads in our area. However, heavy traffic is forecast for Monday morning, Nov. 25, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., with lighter conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday in Cleveland also promise minimal traffic, but standard congestion returns over the weekend.

For those traveling across Ohio, adjusting travel plans to avoid peak times can help ensure a smoother journey during the holiday season.

Ohio Home Sales Surge in October, Prices Continue to Rise

The Ohio housing market experienced a robust increase in activity this October, with home sales growing by 4.8% compared to the same month last year. A total of 11,717 homes were sold in October 2024, surpassing the 11,176 sales recorded in October 2023. Alongside the rise in sales, the average price of homes statewide also saw a notable increase, reaching $290,223—6.1% higher than last October’s average of $273,554.

This growth reflects a positive trend across the state, with 13 of 14 tracked markets reporting an increase in average sale prices. Year-to-date sales for January through October 2024 also show improvement, with 110,785 homes sold—up 0.9% from 2023. The average price for the same period climbed to $291,616, marking a 7.2% year-over-year increase.

The data underscores the steady appeal of homeownership in Ohio, buoyed by rising property values and active market participation. Statistics for the report were compiled from residential closings across new and existing single-family homes and condominiums.

Ohio REALTORS, the state’s largest professional trade association with over 36,000 members, continues to support buyers and sellers with expert guidance, ensuring smooth transactions in a thriving market.
