❄️ Northeast Ohio Braces for Heavy Lake-Effect Snow and Dangerous Travel Conditions

Northeast Ohio residents can expect challenging travel conditions this weekend as lake-effect snow intensifies in the region. As of last night, Lake Effect Snow Warnings were in effect for Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties, alongside a Winter Weather Advisory for Cuyahoga County. These alerts are set to last until 10 AM Saturday, with travel potentially becoming treacherous, especially along I-90 east of Cleveland.

Strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph, and heavy snowfall will combine to create low visibility and rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Persistent snow squalls could lead to accumulations ranging from several inches to over two feet in areas of the primary snowbelt by the weekend’s end. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as snowfall rates may exceed 1 to 2 inches per hour in the most intense bands.

The lake-effect snow will continue into Friday. By Saturday, shifting southwesterly winds will bring the snow closer to the lakeshore, with impacts along the I-90 corridor. A return to westerly winds on Sunday is expected to reinforce snow across the region.

Outside the snowbelt, all of Northeast Ohio will experience gusty winds and freezing temperatures, with highs only reaching the upper 20s to lower 30s through Tuesday. Wind chills will drop into the teens and lower 20s, increasing the risk of frostbite for those outdoors for extended periods.

This wintry pattern is expected to persist into early December. A clipper system could bring more scattered snow by midweek, followed by a gradual warming trend later in the week, though active weather is likely to continue into next weekend.

JCPenney Tops WalletHub's 2024 Black Friday Discounts List

As Black Friday approaches, shoppers are gearing up to snag the best deals of the year. A report from WalletHub has analyzed over 4,300 Black Friday deals from 13 major U.S. retailers to determine where shoppers can find the most significant savings.

Leading the pack for 2024 is JCPenney, offering an impressive average discount of 76.20%, marking nearly a 20% increase compared to last year. This is the sixth time since 2014 that JCPenney has claimed the top spot.

Other top-performing retailers include Belk (72.68%), Macy's (57.13%), Kohl's (43.55%), and Walmart (37.75%). Walmart notably replaced Target in the top five this year.

At the other end of the spectrum, Costco offered the lowest average discount at just 18.27%, placing it at the bottom of the rankings.

Target: Black Friday deals began on Nov. 24 and end Nov. 30. Most Target stores open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.

Best Buy: Offers include deep discounts on electronics and household items, ending Nov. 30 at 11:59 p.m. Stores open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.

Kohl's: Discounts are available from Nov. 24 to Nov. 29, with stores opening at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

With many retailers extending their sales beyond Black Friday, shoppers have more opportunities to grab deals throughout the holiday season.
