City of Mentor
The City of Mentor has announced an extension to its yard waste collection program following disruptions caused by recent heavy snowfall. Yard waste collection has been canceled for the remainder of this week due to snow accumulation. Service will resume on December 9, 2024, and continue for an additional week, with the final collection now scheduled for December 20, 2024.
In addition to regular yard waste collection, the city will address storm-related debris removal. Tree limbs and brush resulting from the November 21 snowstorm will be collected once immediate snow-related issues are resolved. Property owners who require this service must email Public Works at [email protected] to make arrangements.
Guidelines for debris include a maximum limb diameter of 6 inches and a length of no more than 8 feet. Residents should place all materials at the curb for pickup.

āļø Snowstorm Drops 20 Inches on Mentor, Crews Work Around the Clock
The city of Mentor encountered its first significant snowfall over the Thanksgiving weekend, with some areas blanketed by over 20 inches of snow. Public Works crews have been working tirelessly to maintain safe and passable roads for residents.
The city is responsible for clearing over 500 lane miles of roadway during winter weather events. Priority is given to major thoroughfares like Center Street, Mentor Avenue, and Heisley Road. These are followed by secondary routes such as Adkins and North Palmerston, before attention shifts to side streets and cul-de-sacs. Itās important to note that private driveways are not included in city plowing operations.
Highways such as SR-2 and I-90, along with their ramps, fall under the jurisdiction of Lake County and the Ohio Department of Transportation, who manage their snow removal.
Residents are urged to allow adequate space for snowplows to operate effectively. The city expressed gratitude to both the community for their patience and the dedicated crews working around the clock to combat the effects of the storm.

š«§ How to Clean Your Carpet Without Ruining It: Essential Tips
DIY Carpet Cleaning: Do's, Don'ts, and Tips for Success
Keeping your carpet clean can be easier (and cheaper) when you know how to do it yourself without causing damage. Here are some essential do's, don'ts, and techniques to ensure a fresh, long-lasting carpet.
Do's:
One key to success is acting quickly. If there's a spill, clean it up right away to prevent staining. Use a clean, absorbent cloth to blot (not rub) the stain gently. The blotting action helps lift the stain without pushing it deeper into the fibers. For cleaning solutions, opt for mild dish soap mixed with warm water. Test a small, hidden area first to ensure the solution doesn't harm your carpet.
Regular vacuuming is also a must. It helps remove dirt and debris before they get embedded in the carpet fibers, preventing both wear and discoloration. Aim to vacuum high-traffic areas twice a week for best results.
Don'ts:
Avoid using too much water or cleaning solution when tackling stains. Over-saturating the carpet can cause the backing to get wet, which leads to mold growth and unpleasant odors. Similarly, donāt scrub stains aggressivelyāthis can damage fibers, leaving your carpet looking worn and rough.
Another common mistake is using harsh chemicals like bleach. These can discolor your carpet and weaken its fibers. Instead, stick with gentler, non-toxic options to clean your carpets effectively without the risk of damage.
Tips to Avoid Ruining Your Carpet:
Always use a fan or open a window to help your carpet dry quickly after cleaning. Moisture left in the carpet for too long can lead to mildew and mold issues. If using a rented carpet cleaner, follow the instructions precisely, and donāt rush the drying process. Proper drying will prevent damage and keep your carpet smelling fresh.
With the right approach, you can maintain a clean, comfortable carpet without professional intervention. If youāre not sure on how best to handle a carpet stain, contact these local carpet pros:
