šŸŖØ Stone by Stone: 36 Years of Crafting Community with Custom Masonry & Stone Works

How a local masonry expert has built trustā€”and stronger structuresā€”across NE Ohio.

Based in Euclid, Ohio, where older homes and commercial buildings tell the story of the cityā€™s history, Custom Masonry & Stone Works Inc has become the trusted name in preserving and restoring these architectural treasures. Tucked away at 1329 E 260th Street, the family-run business has quietly served the community for 36 years. For founder Robert Siersā€”better known as ā€œThe Masonry Professorā€ā€”masonry isnā€™t just a trade; itā€™s a lifelong passion.

ā€œI approach every project with the mindset of a teacher,ā€ Siers says. ā€œMy goal is to not only solve the problem but to help people understand what went wrong and how we can fix it right the first time.ā€

Building on a Solid Foundation

Custom Masonry & Stone Works was born out of Siersā€™ desire to turn his expertise into something meaningful for his community. He began the business in the late 1980s, armed with a deep respect for traditional masonry techniques and a commitment to quality. Over time, his dedication to craftsmanship earned him the nickname ā€œThe Masonry Professor,ā€ reflecting his extensive knowledge and willingness to educate clients.

From artisan stone installations to small masonry repairs, Siers and his team offer a wide range of services, including the specialized repair of point-of-sale violations. ā€œWhen homeowners need to meet city codes, they often donā€™t know where to turn,ā€ Siers explains. ā€œThatā€™s where we come inā€”to provide solutions that are practical, durable, and done to code.ā€

What Sets Them Apart

The secret to the companyā€™s longevity is simple: expertise, know-how, and integrity. ā€œIn this business, you canā€™t cut corners,ā€ Siers says. ā€œWhether itā€™s a minor repair or an intricate stone project, we take the time to do it right. Itā€™s not just about appearancesā€”itā€™s about creating something that will last for decades.ā€

But what truly sets Custom Masonry & Stone Works apart is Siersā€™ commitment to education. He takes the time to walk clients through the process, offering a rare transparency that builds trust. ā€œWeā€™re not just here to fix things; weā€™re here to give people confidence in the work being done,ā€ he adds.

A Commitment to Community

Over the years, Siers has become more than just a trusted contractorā€”heā€™s become an active part of the community. Through his volunteer work with organizations like the Mentor Redline Club and the Mentor Cardinal Cage Club, heā€™s helped support local youth and given back to the city that has supported his business for decades.

ā€œBeing part of this community means a lot to me,ā€ Siers says. ā€œThe people here have been so loyal to us, and I want to make sure Iā€™m giving back in meaningful ways.ā€

Looking Ahead

For 36 years, Custom Masonry & Stone Works has established itself as a trusted pillar of the community. Despite an ever-evolving world, the company remains dedicated to upholding the exceptional standards that have shaped its reputation.

ā€œAs long as there are homes and buildings in need of care, weā€™ll continue to serve,ā€ says Siers. ā€œMasonry is one of the worldā€™s oldest trades, and Iā€™m honored to carry on this tradition here in northeast Ohio.ā€

With a legacy built on expertise, trust, and an unwavering dedication to quality, Custom Masonry & Stone Works Inc continues to strengthen the community it has served for nearly four decadesā€”one stone at a time.

šŸŒ¬ļø Snow and Wind to Create Dangerous Conditions Across the Region

The 19 First Alert Weather Team has declared a 19 First Alert Weather Day for Wednesday night and Thursday due to a winter storm expected to bring significant weather disruptions across northeast Ohio. A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued by the National Weather Service for several counties in the region.

The storm, a clipper system moving in from the northwest, will begin affecting the area after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Precipitation may start as a brief wintry mix before quickly transitioning into widespread, wind-driven snow. This snow event will impact areas both inside and outside the Snow Belt, creating hazardous travel conditions as roads become slick and snow-covered.

High winds accompanying the system are expected to cause blowing snow, further reducing visibility. Gusts could reach up to 40 mph Wednesday night and intensify to as much as 50 mph on Thursday. These strong winds may also lead to sporadic power outages.

By Thursday, lake effect snow will dominate, with snow bands and squalls heavily impacting the Primary and Secondary Snow Belts. Residents in these areas should prepare for challenging commutes throughout the day.

Quieter weather conditions are expected to return over the weekend, providing some relief after the storm.

šŸ•µļø Mentor Police Crack Down on Holiday Porch Pirates with High-Tech Tactics

Mentor Police Department

The holiday shopping season has arrived, and while shoppers are encouraged to support local businesses, online sales are continuing to surge, setting new records. Unfortunately, this increase in deliveries has also fueled a rise in package thefts, often referred to as "porch piracy."

Porch pirates typically target neighborhoods by following delivery trucks or scouting for unattended packages. High-value items are especially appealing to these criminals, who aim to resell stolen goods for quick cash.

In Mentor, law enforcement is taking proactive steps to combat this issue. Since 2020, the Mentor Police Department has operated an undercover Porch Pirate detail, utilizing unmarked vehicles, surveillance tools, and bait packages equipped with GPS trackers to catch thieves in the act.

Residents are encouraged to take preventative measures to protect their deliveries. Strategies include tracking orders, promptly retrieving packages, and installing home security cameras. Additionally, staying vigilant and watching for suspicious activity can help deter theft. If you spot a questionable vehicle or observe a theft, take note of important details such as license plate numbers and suspect descriptions, then notify the police.

Porch piracy is treated seriously in Mentor, with misdemeanor theft convictions carrying penalties of up to six months in jail for first-time offenders. Victims of theft are advised to report incidents to the Mentor Police Department by calling (440) 255-1234.

šŸŽ… Mentor's Kops and Kids Christmas Brings Holiday Magic to Local Families

Kops & Kids Christmas Event

The Mentor Police Athletic Association brought the holiday spirit to life last night during its annual Kops and Kids Christmas event, creating an evening of fun and festive joy for local children and families. The celebration featured tasty food, delightful face painting, and a special visit from Santa Claus, spreading cheer despite the snowy weather.

Although Jungle Terry couldnā€™t make it due to the snow, the childrenā€™s beaming smiles and laughter were the highlights of the night. The event was made possible by the generosity of Longo's Pizza, which donated the delicious food, and the contributions of local businesses that support the Kops and Kids program. Their kindness continues to bring holiday happiness to the community.

Adding an extra touch of magic, the department's beloved Elf Radar made a surprise appearance during the party.

Thank you to everyone who made the event a success, emphasizing that this celebration is a true reflection of the holiday spirit. By bringing the community together and brightening the season for local families, the Kops and Kids Christmas event remains a cherished tradition in Mentor.

šŸ’Ŗ 5 Exercises to Rebuild Strength After Muscle Atrophy

Muscle atrophy refers to the reduction in muscle mass, strength, and overall functionality. This condition, often triggered by prolonged inactivity, injury, or medical conditions, can affect any muscle group. Recognizing its symptoms and addressing it with proper exercises are crucial steps toward recovery.

Symptoms and Types of Muscle Atrophy

Muscle atrophy manifests in various ways, including visible muscle thinning, weakness, difficulty with balance, and even facial muscle or swallowing challenges. Causes can range from disuse to more complex medical conditions, making it vital to consult a healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment.

Effective Exercises for Muscle Atrophy

Regular exercise is a cornerstone of managing and mitigating muscle atrophy. Below are five recommended exercises tailored to strengthen specific muscle groups and improve mobility:

  1. Single Leg Raises
This exercise targets the quadriceps and hip flexors, enhancing lower body strength and stability. Lying on your back, one leg remains bent while the other is lifted straight to a 45-degree angle before being lowered back down. Alternating legs helps maintain symmetry in strength.

  2. Push-Ups
A classic resistance exercise, push-ups build upper body strength without equipment. Variations, like knee push-ups or elevated push-ups, make this exercise adaptable to different fitness levels, ensuring everyone can benefit.

  3. Triceps Dips
Designed to rebuild arm strength, triceps dips involve lowering and lifting your body using your arms while seated on a sturdy surface. This exercise effectively targets the triceps and enhances overall upper body function.

  4. Squats
Squats strengthen the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, which are essential for balance and mobility. Proper formā€”keeping the chest up and knees aligned with toesā€”ensures safety and maximized benefit.

  5. Aquatic Exercises
Water-based exercises, such as pool squats or marches, offer low-impact options that minimize joint strain while utilizing water resistance for muscle strengthening. These exercises are especially beneficial for those with joint pain or limited mobility.

Moving Forward

Muscle atrophy is a manageable condition when addressed with a tailored exercise plan developed in collaboration with a healthcare provider. Strength-building routines like push-ups and aquatic workouts not only combat muscle loss but also promote overall physical health.
