🏀 Mentor Boys Inside Game and Defense Key Victory Over Shaker Heights

Mentor secured an 88-73 victory over Shaker Heights in a Greater Cleveland Conference matchup, improving to 4-1 on the season. After a shaky start marked by turnovers and fouls, the Cardinals shifted their focus to interior scoring and defensive intensity, which proved decisive.

Trailing 24-23 after the first quarter, Mentor adjusted in the second, moving away from their typical reliance on three-pointers. Ayo Olulami and Kobe Frasure-Azzano dominated the paint, combining for 47 points and 22 rebounds. Olulami led with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Frasure-Azzano added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Dominic Baroni also contributed inside. Despite shooting just 3-for-21 from beyond the arc, Mentor capitalized on their ability to attack the basket and force turnovers.

The Cardinals’ defense took over in the second half, forcing 15 of Shaker Heights’ 28 turnovers. Shaker Heights, led by Chris Cunningham’s 15 points, struggled with foul trouble and a short rotation. Mentor now prepares for the CV Classic on Dec. 27 and 28, facing two Pennsylvania state champions, Aliquippa and Abington Heights.
