Celebrate New Year’s Eve in retro style at Sol in Willoughby, where an unforgettable 80s-themed party awaits! The night kicks off at 9 PM with live music performances by the talented Marina Strah, Sammi Butler, and Dave Boyza, setting the stage for an evening filled with high-energy entertainment.

📰 Stay Warm This Winter: HEAP Program Offers Heating Bill Assistance
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175% of the federal poverty level with their heating bills. Residents must submit utility bills, proof of income, household information, and other documents to apply. Benefits begin January 1, with applications accepted until May 31, 2025.
To apply, individuals must provide:
The most recent utility bills.
A list of all household members, including birth dates and Social Security numbers.
Proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members (12 months for certain income types).
Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
Proof of disability, if applicable.
For immediate assistance, contact Lifeline, Inc. at 440-354-2148, or for help with the application, reach out to the Lake County Council on Aging at 440-205-8111.
⛸️ Mentor Ice Arena Hosts Free Skate Day This Saturday
The Mentor Ice Arena invites the community to enjoy a fun-filled day on the ice with a free public skate event happening this Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Whether you're a seasoned skater or trying out the ice for the first time, this event promises an afternoon of family-friendly entertainment.
Doors open at 12:30 PM, and skate rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Rental sizes accommodate skaters ranging from youth size 8 to adult size 14. Safety is a top priority, so all skaters under 11 years old are required to wear helmets. Bike helmets are perfectly acceptable for those who don’t have traditional skating helmets.

🏀 Wildcats Hold Off Lady Cougars Rally for 51-45 Win
Lady Cougars Fall to Mayfield Wildcats in Hard-Fought Basketball Match
The Lake Catholic Lady Cougars faced a tough loss to the Mayfield Wildcats, ending with a final score of 51-45. This defeat brings the Cougars’ season record to 7-2, including a 2-1 standing in conference play.
Mayfield dominated early, taking a commanding 21-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Lake Catholic gradually narrowed the gap, closing to 30-22 by halftime and 43-36 after the third quarter. Despite their efforts, the Wildcats held on to secure the victory. Carmella Sowers led all scorers with 25 points.
The Lady Cougars will look to bounce back in their next game against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, scheduled for Friday, January 3.
🏀 Lady Cardinals Dominate Perry, Edge Out St. Joseph Academy for 8-3 Record
Mentor Lady Cardinals Secure Back-to-Back Wins Against Perry and St. Joseph Academy
The Mentor Lady Cardinals varsity basketball team delivered two strong performances over the weekend, improving their season record to 8-3.
On Saturday, the Lady Cardinals defeated the Perry Pirates with a decisive 56-41 victory. Key contributions came from Rodriguez, who led with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Willis also added 3 steals and a block, while Watson scored 10 points with an efficiency rating of +10.
Following this success, the Lady Cardinals edged out St. Joseph Academy Jaguars in a thrilling 50-47 win, securing another hard-fought victory. With these back-to-back wins, Mentor continues to build momentum for the season.
