🏘️ $15,000 Tax Credit for First-Time Home Buyers Still in Limbo
Is the First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit Available?
A new initiative, the First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit, aims to make homeownership more accessible by offering financial support to first-time buyers. This refundable tax credit, if enacted, would provide up to $15,000 or 10% of the home's purchase price. Designed to offset closing costs and down payment expenses, this proposal could ease the financial hurdles many face when entering the housing market.
The bill, introduced in 2021 and reintroduced in 2024 under the Biden administration, mirrors a similar program from 2008 but offers enhanced features. Notably, the credit would be immediately available at closing. However, eligibility restrictions would apply, including income limits, primary residence requirements, and a stipulation that the buyer has not owned a home in the past three years.
Currently, this tax credit is still under consideration in Congress, and no timeline for its approval has been set. Alongside this initiative, another proposal, the $25,000 Downpayment Toward Equity Act, seeks to provide grants to help first-time buyers with down payments and related costs.
For those eager to purchase their first home, several alternative options are already available. These include state-level assistance programs, low-down-payment mortgage options, and government-backed loans such as FHA, VA, and USDA programs. These resources can help bridge the gap for buyers until federal legislation progresses.

🏈 Browns Clean House on Offense After Disappointing Season
The Cleveland Browns have parted ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson after a challenging season. The team struggled to perform offensively, finishing near the bottom of the league in total offense and managing only 28 touchdowns across 17 games.
Dorsey’s departure marks his second firing in two seasons, following his release from the Buffalo Bills after 10 games last year. Prior to his coaching career, Dorsey spent three seasons with the Browns as a backup quarterback from 2006 to 2008.
Dickerson, who previously held the same role with the Seattle Seahawks, had a stint in Cleveland earlier in his career as part of Eric Mangini’s coaching staff from 2009 to 2010. The Browns now face the task of rebuilding their offensive leadership as they look ahead to the next season.
🏀 Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Bests Lake Catholic Girls, 42-28
Lake Catholic’s strong start to the season has hit a rough patch, as the Cougars fell 42-28 to the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals on Friday. This marked the lowest-scoring game of the season for Lake Catholic, underscoring their current challenges on the court.
The loss brings Lake Catholic’s record to 7-3, a dip after their early dominance. Meanwhile, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is gaining momentum, winning six of their last eight games to improve to a 7-5 record.
Looking ahead, both teams face road challenges on the horizon. Lake Catholic will meet Padua Franciscan tonight at 7:00 p.m., while Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy will take on Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on January 10 at 5:30 p.m.
🏒 Mentor Cardinals Ice Hockey Dominate Steele Comets in 7-2 Rout
The Mentor Cardinals dominated the Steele Comets (Amherst) in a 7-2 win, with Dominic Trem, Joe Mackey, and Jake Mackey each scoring twice. Matthew Friel added a goal and three assists for a team-high four points.
Goaltender Ryan Wilkinson anchored Mentor’s defense, facing 14 shots and saving 12 of them to secure the win. The Cardinals improved their record to 12-8-2 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
The Cardinals look to extend their strong form in their next game, a home matchup against Hudson on Friday, January 10.
