ā™„ļø Lake County Birthday Club Seeks Valentineā€™s Day Card Donations for Special Needs Celebrations

The Lake County Special Needs Birthday Club is planning three Valentineā€™s Day celebrations this year, and organizers are calling on the community to assist with spreading love and cheer. The events will serve residents at three local facilities: the Memory Care Unit at Legacy of Mentor, the Memory Care Unit at Breckenridge, and Deepwood.

To support these celebrations, the club is requesting Valentineā€™s Day cardsā€”12 for each memory care unit and 36 for Deepwood. In addition, organizers are seeking donations of treats, cookies, small Valentineā€™s-themed gifts, and other goodies to make the events special.

Adding to the festivities, the beloved character Snoopy will make an appearance at the celebrations to bring smiles and joy to attendees.

Since its founding in 2021, the Lake County Special Needs Birthday Club has organized over 160 free birthday celebrations for individuals throughout the county, offering community support and inclusion for those with special needs.

šŸ“° Lake County Crash Claims Life of Driver in Collision with State Snowplow

A tragic accident in Lake County claimed the life of a Cleveland man on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred when the man lost control of his vehicle and collided with a state snowplow on Interstate 90 in Leroy Township.

Allen Anderson, 56, was driving a 2023 Kia Forte when his car veered off the highway around 3 p.m. and struck the rear of an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) truck, which was clearing snow along the roadside berm. Emergency services responded to the scene, but Anderson succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash.

The accident prompted the temporary closure of a portion of I-90 as investigators examined the circumstances of the collision. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, this marks one of 16 incidents this winter in which drivers have struck state snowplows. By comparison, 22 such collisions were recorded during the entirety of last winter.

The winter season has brought a significant increase in snowfall across the region, contributing to more hazardous driving conditions. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has reported nearly 14 inches of snow this season, nearly double the total recorded by the same time last year. In the snowbelt, areas like Chardon have experienced even greater accumulations, with 55 inches reported so far compared to 20 inches last year.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash and are urging drivers to exercise caution, particularly when driving near snowplows and during snowy conditions.
