🏀 Lake Catholic Girls Basketball Stumbles Against Elyria Catholic

The Lake Catholic Cougars girls basketball team suffered a 42-26 loss to the Elyria Catholic Panthers on Wednesday night. This tough Elyria squad is 16-4 on the year and tied with Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at 10-1 for the lead in the conference.

Despite keeping the game close in the first half—trailing by just two points at halftime—Lake Catholic struggled in the third quarter, where Elyria Catholic took control with a decisive 13-2 run.

Elyria Catholic had balanced scoring, with contributions from multiple players, while Lake Catholic was led by Olivia Zampedro (8 points) and Emma Sowers (7 points). The Cougars’ offense struggled after halftime, managing just the two points in the third quarter, which proved to be the turning point in the game.

With the loss, Lake Catholic drops to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play. The team looks to bounce back on Saturday, February 8, when they host conference opponent Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (8-12).

🏀 Cavaliers Bolster Wing Depth with De’Andre Hunter Acquisition

The Atlanta Hawks are sending forward De’Andre Hunter to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks, and two pick swaps. Hunter, in the midst of a career-best season, is averaging 19 points and shooting 39.3% from three-point range.

Cleveland, currently leading the Eastern Conference, sought to add more size on the wing. LeVert, a key bench contributor for the Cavs, was averaging 10.2 points per game while shooting 40.5% from deep. Hunter, known for his scoring ability off the bench, leads the NBA in bench points per game and has recorded 18 games with 20+ points.

Hunter is in the second year of a four-year, $90 million contract with Atlanta, while LeVert is in the final year of his deal. The Cavaliers hope Hunter’s catch-and-shoot ability will improve their floor spacing alongside Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland.
