📰 Enrollment Decline Prompts Faculty Cuts at Lakeland Community College

Lakeland Community College
Lakeland Community College plans to cut 30 full-time faculty positions to address a growing budget deficit caused by a 44% drop in enrollment since 2015. Mentor will welcome a new public art project this summer with the Storybook Bench Project. Five artistically designed benches, each featuring a storybook theme, will be displayed at Springbrook Gardens Park from June through August. Local artists from Lake County will bring their creativity to life, transforming the benches into colorful works of art for visitors to enjoy.
To celebrate the project, the city will host a Storybook Bench Project Gala on August 20, 2025, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Springbrook Gardenhouse. The event will offer the public a chance to meet the artists behind the designs and learn more about their inspiration.
Artists interested in participating must submit a completed registration packet, including design concepts, by 4:00 PM on March 17, 2025. The project is presented by the City of Mentor and the Mentor Community Arts Commission.
Springbrook Gardens Park is located at 6776 Heisley Road in Mentor. For additional details, contact the Wildwood Cultural Center at 440-974-5735 or via email at [email protected].
The registration packet and full application instructions are available on the City of Mentor’s website.
