โ๏ธ Bitter Cold and Subzero Wind Chills Grip the Region
Under a partly cloudy sky, temperatures dropped into the single digits overnight into early Tuesday. However, frigid winds will push wind chills between 5 and 15 degrees below zero.
Tuesday remains bitterly cold, with high temperatures only reaching the mid-teens. Wind chills will struggle to rise above zero throughout the day. While skies stay partly cloudy, a few lingering flurries may develop in the snowbelt region.
Wednesday morning starts off cold again, with temperatures in the single digits. Fortunately, lighter winds will keep wind chills closer to zero. The afternoon remains chilly, with a few flurries still possible.
By Thursday, a weak system moves in, bringing a chance for light snow. However, a drier pattern takes over from Friday into the weekend, allowing temperatures to finally climb above freezing.
๐ Mentor's Tackett Makes Waves as Rare Football-Swimming Dual Threat
Dylan Tackett, a Mentor High School senior, is heading to the Division I state swimming meet with a unique distinction: he's both a successful swimmer and football player. As one of only two News-Herald coverage area state qualifiers in boys D-I, Tackett has qualified for the 50-yard freestyle for the second consecutive year.
After serving as a standout kicker for Mentor's football team in the fall, where he earned D-I second-team All-Ohio honors and connected on six field goals and 61 extra points, Tackett seamlessly transitioned to the pool. At the D-I Cleveland State District meet, he secured an automatic state qualification with a runner-up finish, clocking 21.51 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
This achievement marks Mentor's first boys individual-event district top three since 2010. Tackett, who finished 22nd in state prelims last year with a time of 21.76, aims to make it to Day 2 this time around by reaching the top 16.
The senior acknowledges that while many football players might underestimate swimming's difficulty, the sport demands both physical endurance and mental strength. His goal at the state meet is straightforward: swim faster than his previous best.
๐ WNBA Expansion: Cleveland Rockers Expected to Make a Comeback
Cleveland is set to rejoin the WNBA with the return of the Rockers in 2028, pending official confirmation. The team would be the leagueโs 16th franchise and play at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbertโs Rock Entertainment Group submitted a $250 million expansion bid, reflecting the league's rising popularity. The original Rockers folded in 2003 due to low attendance, but the WNBA's growth has led to significant expansion.

Over the past few years, smart home security systems have evolved significantly, making them more accessible and user-friendly. Once considered complex and requiring professional installation, these systems now offer simple DIY setups, intuitive mobile apps, and seamless integration with voice assistants.
Key Advancements in Smart Home Security
1. DIY Installation for Everyone
Modern smart home security systems prioritize simple, do-it-yourself installation, eliminating the need for professional setup. With wireless technology, users can place cameras and sensors wherever needed without drilling holes or dealing with complicated wiring.
2. Wireless Technology for Hassle-Free Setup
Wireless connectivity has revolutionized home security, making it easier than ever to install and reposition devices. Most systems connect directly to a homeโs Wi-Fi network, ensuring a smooth and clean setup process.
3. Mobile Apps for Intuitive Control
Security systems now come with user-friendly mobile apps that guide users through setup and daily operation. These apps provide one-tap controls to arm or disarm the system, access live video feeds, and receive instant alerts when motion is detected.
4. Real-Time Notifications and Remote Monitoring
Homeowners can now monitor their homes in real time, receiving instant notifications about detected activity. Whether at work or on vacation, users can check their security status and footage anytime through their smartphones.
5. Voice Assistant Integration for Hands-Free Control
Many security systems now integrate with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing users to manage security settings with simple voice commands.
With these advancements, smart home security has become more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly, providing peace of mind with minimal effort.

๐ NBA's All-Star Evolution Shows Promise in Bay Area Spectacle
In a weekend that bridged San Francisco Bay's basketball heritage, Stephen Curry reminded the NBA why he remains the region's most transcendent star, claiming MVP honors in a reimagined All-Star format that showed glimpses of the league's ambitious future.
With LeBron James sidelined, Curry seized center stage in a tournament-style competition that replaced the traditional exhibition match. The new format, featuring first-to-40-points elimination rounds, injected unexpected defensive intensity into a showcase typically known for its casual approach.
"That was the goal," said Damian Lillard, as players embraced the structural changes.
The weekend's most electric moments came courtesy of G League sensation Mac McClung, who claimed his third consecutive dunk title. His aerial artistry prompted social media challenges from Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, teasing a potential super-field for next year's contest.
San Antonio's rookie Stephon Castle emerged as the weekend's breakout star, reaching the dunk contest finals and showcasing skills that hint at a bright future alongside the Spurs' newly acquired De'Aaron Fox.
The weekend marked a poignant farewell for TNT's iconic "Inside the NBA" crew. Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O'Neal concluded their final All-Star broadcast after decades of shaping how fans experience the game, receiving signed jerseys and fishing gear as parting gifts. Johnson's traditional Legends Brunch poem served as a fitting epilogue to their All-Star tenure.
