Ice Wine Festival Returns in March with Tastings, Food, and Festivities

The 22nd annual Ice Wine Festival kicks off in March 2025, offering a month of wine tastings, food pairings, and special events across six wineries and a distillery in the Grand River Valley.

From noon to 5 p.m. daily, participating wineries will serve $10 tastings of their unique ice wines, each paired with appetizers. Guests will receive a festival wine glass, with those completing the Ice Wine Trail collecting six. Some wineries will open early on Saturdays for vendors and activities, while three wineries are hosting Friday evening progressive dinners by reservation. These start at Cask 307 for soup and salad, move to Grand River Cellars for an entrée, and end with dessert at Debonne Vineyards, with live music.

This year’s festival features creative ice wine variations, including habanero, maple, cherry bourbon, espresso, and bourbon barrel-aged options. Ferrante Winery will also host an ice wine-tasting dinner on March 1.

Red Eagle Distillery is offering a Planter’s Punch cocktail made with Vidal Ice Wine and spirits, along with a $39 three-course dinner at its Black Door Tavern on March weekends. A "Speakeasy Ice Wine Cocktail Bar" will serve mini ice wine cocktail flights with steak frites for $10.

Northeast Ohio’s cold climate makes it one of the few regions in the world capable of producing ice wine. This year’s festival will feature 2023 and 2024 vintages, while the 2025 batch is expected to be excellent due to ideal freezing conditions.

🏠 6 Home Improvement Loans: Find the Best Option for Your Budget

Financing home renovations can be done through various loan options, each suited to different needs. Home equity loans and HELOCs allow homeowners to borrow against their home’s equity, with HELOCs offering flexible, revolving credit. A cash-out refinance replaces the existing mortgage with a larger loan, providing extra cash for renovations while potentially lowering the interest rate. The FHA 203(k) rehab loan is ideal for buying and renovating fixer-uppers, bundling the mortgage and renovation costs into one loan.

For homeowners without equity, personal loans provide fast, unsecured funding but often come with higher interest rates and shorter repayment terms. Credit cards are a last-resort option, useful for small repairs or emergencies, especially if they offer 0% APR introductory periods.

The best financing option depends on factors like home equity, credit score, loan terms, and project size. Comparing multiple lenders can help secure the best rates and terms for home improvement projects.

🏀 Cavs Hold Off Grizzlies to Extend Winning Streak to Seven

The Cleveland Cavaliers continued their dominant season with a 129-123 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night, securing their seventh straight victory and improving their home record to an impressive 27-4.

Donovan Mitchell led the way with 33 points, while fellow All-Star Evan Mobley nearly recorded a triple-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists. Ty Jerome provided a spark off the bench, scoring 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. The Cavaliers managed to outlast Memphis despite missing All-Star guard Darius Garland, who was sidelined with a bruised left hip.

For Memphis, Jaren Jackson Jr. had 22 points, while Ja Morant recorded 21 points and 10 assists. Luke Kennard added 19 points off the bench, but the Grizzlies couldn't overcome Cleveland’s late-game surge. The loss marks Memphis' third in its last four games.

The game featured the NBA’s two highest-scoring teams, with Cleveland holding a narrow edge over Memphis in points per game. However, both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with Cleveland missing 22 of its first 25 three-point attempts before finishing 13 of 47.

A tense moment occurred in the third quarter when Mitchell and Desmond Bane became entangled fighting for a loose ball, leading to technical fouls for both players. Morant and Cleveland’s Tristan Thompson also received technicals for stepping into the altercation.

Cleveland will now hit the road to face Orlando on Tuesday, while Memphis begins a five-game homestand against Phoenix the same night.

🏊‍♂️ Lake Catholic Relay Earns First-Ever State Swimming Title in Dramatic Finish

Lake Catholic’s Darren Bittner, Tino Perkovic, Evan Ream, and Andrew Pesek made history by winning the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.49, edging out Indian Hills by just 0.03 seconds. The relay team adjusted its lineup for the final, a decision that paid off when Pesek’s 21.52 anchor split secured the school’s first-ever boys swimming state title. It also marked the first relay state championship for any Lake County high school.
