Flashlights, Fun, and Fierce Competition Return for the Adult Flashlight Dash
Get ready to channel your inner kidāwith a grown-up twist! The Adult Flashlight Dash is making its much-anticipated return, promising a high-energy egg hunt designed exclusively for adults 21 and older. This fast-paced, after-dark event transforms the traditional egg hunt into a full-speed scramble for prizes, laughs, and a little friendly competition.
Participants will gather at the clubhouse before heading to the Practice Center. Once the signal is given, itās go timeāflashlights in handāas you dash across the range in search of more than 4,000 hidden eggs. And itās not just for fun: over 100 eggs will contain top-tier prizes youāll definitely want to find first.
The evening also includes complimentary snacks, with adult beverages available for purchase to keep the festive vibes going. Pre-registration is required to participate, and no walk-ups will be accepted.

š° Detective Lawrence Receives VFW Public Servant Award for Outstanding Service

Mentor Detective Honored with VFW Public Servant Award
This morning, Detective Lawrence of the Mentor Police Department was recognized with the VFW Public Servant Award, presented by Mentor VFW Post #9295 Service Officer Bob Zonneville.
Detective Lawrence has been a dedicated member of the department since 2001 and has served in the Detective Bureau since 2019. His commitment to justice and public safety has extended beyond the city through his work with the U.S. Marshalās Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. In 2023, he was named Task Force Officer of the Year, and in 2024, his team earned the distinction of Ohioās Team of the Year as recognized by Congress.
In addition to his investigative accomplishments, Detective Lawrence has played a pivotal role in enhancing officer safety by leading the initiative to equip every Mentor officer with tactical medical kits and providing department-wide training as a certified Tactical Medical Instructor.
His dedication also reaches into the community. He actively supports youth and outreach programs, including the Mentor Police Athletic Associationās Kops and Kids, Shop with a Cop, and the Captains event that honors student leaders. Within the department, he fosters camaraderie by organizing the Mentor Police Softball Teamās participation in the annual Matt Henk Memorial Softball Tournament.
Detective Lawrenceās professionalism, leadership, and commitment to both public service and community involvement make him a deserving recipient of this prestigious award. Congratulations to Detective Lawrence on this well-earned honor.

š° Mentor Police Invite Teens to Join Summer Junior Academy
Students entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the 2025ā2026 school year are invited to participate in a unique summer opportunity offered by the Mentor Police Department. The Junior Police Academy, a hands-on program designed to introduce youth to the world of law enforcement, is now accepting applications for its upcoming sessions.
Two week-long sessions will be held in June:
Session 1: June 9ā13, 2025
Session 2: June 16ā20, 2025
Both run from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily.
Participants will explore a range of police-related activities and training exercises, offering an immersive glimpse into the responsibilities and challenges of law enforcement. From physical training to crime scene investigation and team-building activities, students will gain a deeper appreciation for police work in a controlled and engaging environment.
The program fee is $75 per participant. Enrollment is open on a first-come, first-served basis, and spaces tend to fill quickly. The department encourages early registration through the cityās official website. Once all slots are filled, updates will be posted on social media.

ā¾ Cougars Rally Late to Edge Willoughby South 5-4
The Lake Catholic Cougars edged out Willoughby South in a close 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon, powered by late-game offense and a strong relief appearance.
South jumped ahead early with two runs in the first and added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Lake Catholic responded steadily, tying the game in the fifth before sealing the win with two clutch runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Big bats came through for the Cougars, with Trobenter launching a solo home run and Radigan adding a homer of his own along with two RBIs. Radigan also picked up the win on the mound, pitching two innings of relief while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four.
South was led offensively by Miller, who tripled, and Namestnik, who doubled and drove in two runs. Hayek took the loss for the Rebels, giving up two runs in 1.1 innings of work.
With the win, Lake Catholic improves its momentum heading into a Monday matchup against Holy Name.
ā¾ Trout, OāHoppe Power Angels to 10-4 Win Over Guardians
The Los Angeles Angels rolled to a 10-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night, thanks to a seven-run fifth inning and a solid MLB debut from Jack Kochanowicz.
Mike Trout and Logan OāHoppe each launched two-run homers in the fifth to break a 3-3 tie. Troutās 429-foot shot to center started the rally, followed by OāHoppeās blast to left-center after Jorge Soler was hit by a pitch. The inning continued with singles by Nolan Schanuel and Taylor Ward, a walk from Jo Adell, and a two-run double by Tim Anderson.
Kochanowicz went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out four. He escaped a key jam in the fifth by retiring Kyle Manzardo with the bases loaded.
The Angels struck early with a three-run first, including a solo homer from Luis Rengifo and a two-run shot by Soler. Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee struggled, giving up seven runs and four homers over four innings.
