📰 Mentor Seeks Proposals for Key City Projects and Community Grant Programs

City of Mentor Advances Key Projects and Invites Community Proposals

The City of Mentor is moving forward with several development and infrastructure projects, with sealed proposals now being accepted by the city’s Purchasing Department at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard.

Among the initiatives is the planned replacement of the HVAC system at the Mentor Recreation Center Soccer Complex, a project aimed at enhancing indoor climate control and overall facility efficiency. Additionally, the city is preparing for the 2025 Mentor Marina Pavilion Project, which is expected to enhance the lakefront experience for residents and visitors.

Mentor is also inviting submissions for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded initiatives, covering the upcoming program year from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. These grant funds are used to provide decent housing and a suitable living environment and expand economic opportunity for primarily low- and moderate-income persons.

Two previously bid projects are being reopened for proposals: the procurement of a digital X-ray processing system and the acquisition of a mobile stage. Both projects are being rebid, allowing vendors another opportunity to submit competitive offers.

If you're looking to breathe new life into your side dish game, this Mediterranean Coleslaw is an easy win. Bright, crisp, and packed with flavor, it's a refreshing spin on traditional coleslaw — trading out creamy dressing for a bold, lemony vinaigrette and swapping in Mediterranean-inspired ingredients that make every bite pop.

⚾ Lake Catholic Blanks Holy Name in Two-Game Sweep

The Lake Catholic Cougars secured back-to-back shutout wins over the Holy Name Green Wave this week, taking the series with dominant performances on both sides of the ball.

In the April 9 opener, Lake Catholic exploded for five runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-0 win. The Cougars tallied 10 singles, drew nine walks, and capitalized on three Holy Name errors. Micah Nytrae led the offense, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. On the mound, Frank Trinetti delivered six strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four. The defense backed him up with a flawless effort in the field.

Two days later, Lake Catholic followed up with a 2-0 victory. This time it was the pitching duo of Shea Sievers and Patrick Radigan that stole the show. Sievers earned the win, tossing five shutout innings while striking out two. Radigan closed out the final two frames, striking out five and securing the save. Together, they allowed seven hits and no runs over seven innings. The Cougars host the Nordonia Knights today at 11:30 a.m.

⚾ Arias Shines as Guardians Blank Royals in Fourth Straight Win

The Cleveland Guardians continued their hot streak Friday night, shutting out the Kansas City Royals 7-0 at home for their fourth consecutive victory. With the win, Cleveland climbs above .500 at 7-6.

Gabriel Arias stole the spotlight, going 3-for-4 with a three-run opposite-field homer in the fourth — his second of the season, both coming against the Royals. He also flashed the leather with a diving tag at second and a heads-up double play from shallow right field. The Guardians' offense broke out for 11 hits, including a four-run eighth inning where the entire lineup came to the plate. Steven Kwan and Angel Martinez added RBIs, with Martinez staying perfect at the plate this season after a 3-for-3 night.

Tanner Bibee started, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. Tim Herrin earned the win in relief, followed by strong outings from Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis — both still sporting 0.00 ERAs in 2025. Triston McKenzie closed the ninth to complete the shutout.

🏀 Garland’s Fourth-Quarter Heroics Lift Cavs Over Knicks in Gritty Comeback

The Cavaliers, already locked into the top seed, walked into Madison Square Garden short-handed and still managed to stun the playoff-hungry Knicks with a 113-107 comeback win.

Down by 23 points early and missing Donovan Mitchell and several rotation players, Cleveland leaned on Darius Garland, who delivered a masterclass. Garland scored 26 points and dished 13 assists — including 13 points in a perfect fourth quarter. Max Strus added 19 points, while Isaac Okoro contributed 15 off the bench and played standout defense.

Despite New York’s urgency to secure the No. 3 seed, their focus faltered late. Even though Indiana’s loss eventually locked the Knicks into their spot, that result wasn’t known during the game.

Cleveland’s defense flipped a switch in the second half. Jarrett Allen grabbed 13 rebounds to outduel Mitchell Robinson, and the Cavs won the rebounding battle 49-35. In the clutch, their defense forced shot clock violations and shut down Jalen Brunson. With one game left before the postseason, the Cavaliers are showing signs of a focused, playoff-ready squad — refusing to coast and proving why they finished atop the East.
