š° Lake Countyās April 30 Volunteer Fair to Spotlight Local Service Opportunities
The Lake County Volunteer Network, alongside several community partners, is hosting a Community Volunteer Fair on April 30 at Lakeland Community College. The event will run from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the H Building Atrium on campus at 7700 Clocktower Drive in Kirtland. Parking will be available near the H Building for attendees.
Organized in collaboration with the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities, United Way of Lake County, Mentor Public Library, and Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library, the fair aims to connect residents with meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout Lake and Geauga counties.

Dozens of agencies are expected to participate, including Lake Metroparks, Lifeline, Lake County Council on Aging, Project Hope for the Homeless, Birthright Lake Inc., Lake County Free Clinic, and Ohio Living, among others.
Nonprofit and government agencies interested in participating must register online by April 21. Participation is free, and confirmations will be sent by email. Set-up for registered organizations begins at 11 a.m. on the day of the event.
The Lake County Volunteer Network is a coalition of nonprofits, community partners, and residents dedicated to encouraging volunteerism and supporting positive change across Lake and Geauga counties.

š¶ Probiotics Could Be the Key to Easing Dog Allergies, Say Researchers
Pet owners are increasingly turning to probiotics as a natural way to help manage their dogsā allergiesāand for good reason. Emerging research shows that introducing beneficial bacteria early in a dogās life can significantly reduce their chances of developing severe allergic reactions.
The latest studies point to the power of specific probiotic strains, especially Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, in moderating allergic responses. When given to puppies as young as three weeks old, this strain has been shown to reduce allergic symptoms and lower IgE antibody levels, which are responsible for many common skin and respiratory allergy issues in dogs.
Probiotics work by promoting a balanced immune system and reducing inflammation throughout the body. This dual effect helps prevent the immune system from overreacting to harmless substances in the environmentāsomething thatās especially useful for dogs prone to environmental or seasonal allergies.
Among the top-performing strains is Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, which supports skin health and reduces inflammation. Bacillus velezensis/subtilis also stands out due to its durability and ability to thrive in the digestive system, which makes it effective at creating and maintaining a healthier gut environment.
This gut-health connection is central to understanding how probiotics help with allergies. A healthier gut microbiome can reshape the immune systemās response to allergens, shifting the balance toward beneficial bacteria while reducing harmful ones.
For dog owners considering probiotics, dosage matters. Younger dogs generally require lower amountsāaround 2 grams dailyāwhile senior dogs may benefit from up to 10 grams per day. Itās also important to work with a veterinarian, especially if the dog has a weakened immune system or is undergoing immunosuppressive treatment.
The long-term benefits are particularly promising. Early probiotic use appears to offer lasting immune support and potentially reduces the risk of chronic allergy issues as dogs age. With quality products and the right professional guidance, probiotics can become a powerful part of a dogās overall allergy management strategy.

ā¾ Hollidayās Grand Slam Sparks Orioles in 9-1 Rout of Guardians
The Baltimore Orioles cruised to a 9-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night, fueled by a grand slam from Jackson Holliday and a strong outing by Dean Kremer.
Holliday ended an 0-for-17 slump with a towering second-inning blast into the bullpen, giving Baltimore a 4-0 lead. The bases were loaded on walks to Cedric Mullins and Ramón UrĆas and a single from Ryan Mountcastle.
Kremer, entering with an 8.16 ERA, turned in his best performance of the season, allowing just one runāa homer by Gabriel Ariasāacross 5 1/3 innings while giving up four hits.
Ramón Laureano added a solo homer in the seventh, and Ryan OāHearn capped a four-run eighth with a long ball of his own. Cleveland loaded the bases in the eighth but came up empty.
The Orioles had some defensive lapses, though Heston Kjerstad made a crucial sliding catch in right-center to prevent extra bases and potential runs in the sixth.
