🏍️ Thousands of Bikers to Ride in 41st Annual Louie Run on Sunday

Motorcyclists from across Northeast Ohio will hit the road on Sunday May 4 for the 41st Annual Louie Run—a memorial ride that honors members of the biker community and raises funds to support the families of those injured or lost in motorcycle accidents.

Known for marking the unofficial start to the riding season, the Louie Run is a celebration of life, freedom, and solidarity on two wheels. Riders gather at multiple starting locations throughout the region before making their way to Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, where the main event unfolds.

Participants can expect a day filled with camaraderie and community engagement. At the park, event booths will offer information about motorcycle safety, community programs, and charitable initiatives. Among them will be a station distributing red poppies—an international symbol of remembrance for fallen soldiers—available by donation.

The Louie Run also features a Liquor Wagon Raffle, with proceeds directly supporting local veterans and their families. Funds raised help provide essential items to area food banks, clothing through Sub Zero Mission, and charitable contributions to organizations such as Special Olympics and Wounded Warriors.

The event is free to join and welcomes riders of all experience levels. For more information about the ride and its charitable efforts, visit www.louierun.com or search for the event on social media.

📰 Traffic Concerns: Another Mentor Car Wash Proposed

A proposal to open a Clean Express Auto Wash at 9361 Mentor Avenue has been tabled by the Mentor Planning Commission due to traffic concerns, though the proposed use of the site, a former Boston Market, was not contested.

At the May 1 meeting, commission members raised concerns about vehicles entering and exiting the site, especially when turning onto eastbound Mentor Avenue. Some suggested restricting access to right turns only to avoid traffic delays and safety risks.

A traffic study estimated 78 peak-hour trips for the car wash, slightly lower than the 102 trips per hour when Boston Market operated there. However, officials noted that the car wash’s continuous vehicle flow differs from the restaurant’s stop-and-park traffic.

Mentor Planning Director Kathy Cantanzriti said the site’s two-lane setup may help keep traffic moving and recommended the owners consult with nearby businesses like Walmart and Speedway to find workable traffic solutions.

A local resident opposed the plan, pointing to existing congestion from nearby Zappy’s Auto Wash.

📰 Lake County Birthday Club Gathers Donations to Brighten Summer Holiday

The Lake County Special Needs Birthday Club is gathering donations for its “Christmas in July” initiative, which will bring holiday cheer to residents of Deepwood Industries and three local memory care units.

Directed by Lake County Treasurer Michael Zuren and coordinator Terri Bowes-Koszey, the club is requesting Christmas-themed decorations, ornaments, festive trinkets, and essential toiletries like toothpaste, deodorant, perfume, washcloths, mouthwash, and cozy footies. These items are meant to provide comfort and brighten the lives of individuals who may not have nearby family.

The event reflects the club’s mission of celebrating and supporting people with special needs, especially those who might otherwise be overlooked during birthdays and holidays.

Those wishing to contribute can contact Bowes-Koszey at 440-567-0991. Every donation, big or small, helps create a meaningful experience for the residents.

⚾ Ramírez Injured as Blue Jays Rally Late for Victory

The Toronto Blue Jays secured a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night, thanks to a two-out, two-run single by Nathan Lukes in the eighth inning that broke a late tie and extended Toronto’s winning streak to three games.

Cleveland lost star infielder José Ramírez in the third inning after he sprained his right ankle stumbling over first base. The injury occurred when he was struck by a throw from Toronto pitcher Chris Bassitt.

Carlos Santana gave Cleveland an early lead with a solo homer in the second, but Alejandro Kirk responded with a two-run single in the third. Bo Naylor tied it in the fourth with a solo shot, and George Springer put Toronto back on top in the fifth with a home run. Santana’s RBI single in the sixth tied the game again and ended Bassitt’s night after 5 1/3 innings.

Brendon Little earned the win in relief, and Jeff Hoffman picked up his seventh save by stranding the tying runs in the ninth. The Blue Jays are now 9-1 this season when scoring five or more runs.
