š° Smart Meter Installation Set to Begin in Mentor June 23

City of Mentor
FirstEnergy will begin rolling out its Ohio Smart Meter Program in the City of Mentor starting the week of June 23, 2025. The upgrade is part of a statewide initiative to modernize electric service.
Residents scheduled for conversion should have received a brochure by mail 4ā6 weeks ahead of the installation. An additional letter, arriving two weeks prior, outlines program details, contact information, and opt-out options.
Meter replacements will be performed by FirstEnergy employees or Wellington Contractors, who will carry visible identification. Company vehicles will be clearly marked, and Wellington staff will wear brown uniforms.
After installation, a door hanger will be left confirming the meter exchange. If repairs are needed, another door hanger will provide details. Follow-up workāif requiredāwill be handled by FirstEnergy or its contractors at no cost to the resident.

š° City Trunk Sale Set for June 7 in Mentor-on-the-Lake
Mentor-on-the-Lake will host its annual City Trunk Sale on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall's parking lot, 5860 Andrews Road.
The popular āJunk in the Trunkā event invites residents to sell items directly from their vehicles. Itās open to the public, and sellers are needed to fill available spots.
To participate, submit the registration form and a $5 fee per spot to City Hall by June 4āeither in person or by mail. This is a great opportunity to clean out clutter and make a few bucks. For more information, contact City Hall at (440) 257-7216 or email [email protected].

šMentor-on-the-Lake to Honor Veterans with Memorial Day Parade TODAY
Residents are invited to honor Americaās fallen heroes at the Annual AMVETS Post 109 Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in Mentor-on-the-Lake.
The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. at Mentor-on-the-Lake City Hall and concludes at AMVETS Post 109, located at 7847 Lakeshore Boulevard. Community members are encouraged to join in the procession, with golf carts welcome to participate. A trophy will be awarded for the best-decorated cart, and all are welcome to compete.
Please note that Andrews Road north of City Hall and parts of Lakeshore Boulevard to Marine Parkway will be closed for the duration of the parade. Attendees should plan accordingly.
Following the parade, AMVETS Post 109 will host a Memorial Day ceremony that is open to the public and includes free hot dogs.

ā¾ Late-Inning Firepower Lifts Cleveland Past Detroit in Extra-Inning Thriller
Cleveland used a four-run outburst in the 10th inningāpowered by RBI doubles from Kyle Manzardo and Angel MartĆnezāto claim a 7ā5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. The win marked the Guardiansā third consecutive triumph in the series.
After being held scoreless through the first nine innings, Cleveland broke a 3ā3 tie in the 10th. Manzardo opened the inning with an RBI double off Brenan Hanifee (2ā2), followed by MartĆnezās run-scoring double to make it 5ā3. Bo Naylor added a sacrifice fly and Nolan Jones chipped in with an RBI single to cap the rally.
Though Detroit answered with a two-run double from Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the inning, closer Emmanuel Clase recorded the final two outs to preserve the win. Tim Herrin (4ā1) earned the victory with a clean ninth inning.
The Tigers jumped out early with a three-run first inning, sparked by Colt Keithās RBI double and Matt Vierlingās two-run single. However, they managed just two hits for the remainder of the gameāboth by Torres.
Cleveland began its comeback in the third with a Naylor home run and a JosĆ© RamĆrez RBI single. The Guardians tied the game in the eighth when RamĆrez scored on MartĆnezās grounder, despite a strong throw to the plate.
RamĆrez extended his hitting streak to 17 games with his third-inning single.
