📰 Mentor Neighborhood Struggles With Years-Long Sewage Stench

In Mentor’s Woodhill subdivision, a persistent sewage-like odor has been troubling residents for years. The smell, most noticeable near Richards and Lenor Drives, often fills the air in the early mornings and late evenings, lingering for hours and disrupting daily life.

Homeowners—both longtime and new—say repeated complaints to city and county officials, the sewer district, and the EPA have brought little change. Some feel their concerns have been dismissed, despite the issue’s impact on their quality of life.

One resident recently launched a petition, quickly gathering over 20 signatures from neighbors. Many suspect the problem stems from aging sewer lines, possibly overwhelmed by newer housing developments. Gravity-fed pipes may be holding waste too long, leading to the unpleasant emissions.

City officials acknowledged a past report but said no recent complaints had reached them. They now plan to investigate. Meanwhile, the Lake County General Health District referred the issue to the EPA.

As the smell persists, some residents are considering moving, while others continue pushing for answers and a permanent fix.

⚾ Reds Roll Past Guardians 7-4 in Francona's Emotional Return

The Cleveland Guardians suffered a disappointing 7-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Monday night at Progressive Field, marking Terry Francona's emotional return as an opposing manager after leading Cleveland for 11 successful seasons from 2013-2023.

The Guardians showed early promise, with Bo Naylor contributing a solo home run, but couldn't overcome Cincinnati's offensive attack. Jake Fraley tormented Cleveland pitching with three hits, including a crucial fourth-inning home run off starter Luis Ortiz that tied the game 3-3. TJ Friedl also went deep against Ortiz, who struggled to a 3-7 record this season.

The loss marks Cleveland's fourth defeat in five games and extends their season-long futility against Cincinnati. The Reds have now swept the season series from their in-state rivals for the first time since 2014, winning all four meetings between the clubs this year.

Wade Miley, making his first start since signing with Cincinnati on June 4, earned his first victory since 2023 by holding the Guardians to three runs over five innings. The veteran left-hander's comeback story from Tommy John surgery added another layer of frustration for Cleveland fans hoping to see their former beloved manager struggle in his return.
