š° Third Earthquake This Week Shakes Madison Area
A mild earthquake shook part of Lake County on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The 2.3-magnitude tremor struck just before 1 p.m., with its epicenter located slightly more than a mile south-southeast of Madison, near Hogback Ridge Park, at a depth of about three miles.
This marks the third earthquake this week in the same general area, following two smaller tremorsāmeasuring 1.3 and 2.0 in magnitudeāearly Tuesday morning, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). So far this year, eight earthquakes have been reported near Madison, with Thursday's being the second strongest. The largest, a 2.5-magnitude quake, occurred on May 12.
The USGS had received 16 reports from residents who felt Thursdayās quake, though no damage or injuries were reported.
In 2024, the area experienced 38 earthquakes, all registering below 2.0 magnitude, making this weekās activity a noticeable uptick in seismic strength for the region.

ā¾ Errors, Quiet Bats Doom Guardians in 5ā1 Loss to Aās
The Guardians couldnāt solve left-hander Jeffrey Springs on Friday night, falling 5-1 to the Athletics in West Sacramento. Cleveland managed just three hits against Springs, who went a season-best 7 1/3 innings for his first win in over a month.
Clevelandās lone highlight came from rookie Angel MartĆnez, who homered in the eighth to prevent the shutout. By then, the Guardians were already trailing after a series of early miscues and timely Aās hitting.
Two errors by third baseman JosĆ© RamĆrez in the second inning led to a 3-0 Oakland lead, capped by an RBI single from Lawrence Butler. Nick Kurtz added to Clevelandās woes in the third, launching a two-run homer ā his third in as many games ā to put the game further out of reach.
Despite the loss, Guardians starter Tanner Bibee delivered a solid individual performance, going eight innings and striking out a season-high 10. He allowed five runs (four earned) on 11 hits.
Relievers Michael Kelly and Mason Miller closed out the final five outs for Oakland. The Guardians have dropped three of their last four.
