🩓 Lake Erie Sand Sculpture Tour to Debut Across Four Lake County Parks

Tour Lake County OH

Lake County will launch its first Lake Erie Sand Sculpture Tour on Friday, July 12, showcasing large-scale sand art across four lakefront parks. The sculptures, created by award-winning artist Carl Jara, aim to spotlight the county’s shoreline attractions.

Jara—featured on the Travel Channel’s Sand Blasters and Sand Wars—will build original works at Osborne Park in Willoughby, Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, and Madison Township Park.

A central festival at Headlands Beach State Park will run from noon to 4 p.m., featuring 80+ vendors, food trucks, live music, and family activities, organized by Lake Side Mystic Flea.

While Headlands and Fairport are already popular, the event also highlights quieter gems like Madison Township Park and the evolving Osborne Park, which is undergoing a $10 million upgrade to add beach access.

The tour, organized by Tour Lake County and supported by local and state partners, encourages visitors to explore all 18 lakefront parks in the county.

⚾ Guardians & White Sox to Play Split Doubleheader After Thursday Rainout

Thursday’s matchup between the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Guardians was postponed due to inclement weather, shifting the series schedule into a split doubleheader on Friday.

The makeup game will now begin at 2:10 p.m., followed by the originally scheduled evening game at 7:10 p.m. For the White Sox, Shane Smith is set to take the mound in the afternoon, with Jonathan Cannon handling pitching duties later in the day. The Guardians will counter with Logan Allen in Game 1 and Gavin Williams in Game 2.

This marks the Guardians’ first visit to Chicago to face the White Sox this season in a four-game series that continues through Sunday. The White Sox previously faced a three-game sweep at the hands of Cleveland back in April.

⚾ Late Rally Lifts Captains Over Whitecaps in 5-4 Victory

The Lake County Captains staged a late comeback to edge the West Michigan Whitecaps 5-4 on Thursday night in a tightly contested game. After falling behind in the middle innings, Lake County surged back with timely offense and solid relief pitching to secure the win.

Starting pitcher Jackson Humphries turned in a mixed performance, going 4.1 innings and allowing three runs on just two hits — one of which was a two-run homer — along with two walks and two strikeouts. His effort kept the Captains in the game early, but it was reliever Kyle Scott who ultimately earned the victory. Scott pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and fanned two batters, improving his record to 4-3 on the season.

Lake County struck first in the opening inning, when Ralphy Velazquez launched his 12th home run of the year, a line drive to right field. The Captains added another run in the fifth on an RBI double by Esteban GonzƔlez.

However, West Michigan answered swiftly in the bottom half of the fifth. Austin Murr tied the game with a two-run homer, and Woody Hadeen followed up with a two-run single to give the Whitecaps a 4-2 lead.

Lake County began to claw back in the eighth, when Alfonsin Rosario belted his 14th home run of the season. Later that inning, Wuilfredo Antunez tied the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Jaison Chourio. In the ninth, Rosario again played a pivotal role, driving in the go-ahead run with a sac fly to left, bringing home GonzƔlez and sealing the comeback.
