5 Flooring Trends That Are Falling Out of Style in 2025

Flooring sets the tone for a home’s entire design and is one of the most significant — and expensive — decisions a homeowner can make. As interior styles evolve, so do preferences for flooring materials, colors, and finishes. In 2025, several once-popular flooring choices are being left behind as design trends shift toward more timeless, practical options.

One of the biggest shifts is the move away from gray-toned wood flooring. Once hailed as a versatile neutral, gray has begun to feel cold and uninspired. Homeowners are now opting for natural wood tones that add warmth and character to a room, offering a cozier and more classic aesthetic.

Another trend fading from favor is hexagon mosaic tiles. These small-scale tiles, often found in bathrooms, are losing their appeal due to maintenance challenges. With an excessive number of grout lines, they’re difficult to keep clean, and their slick surfaces add to their impracticality. The overall look, once charming, now leans more “budget renovation” than “boutique spa.”

The popularity of faux barnwood floors is also waning. While real reclaimed wood continues to be sought after for its authenticity and warmth, the imitation versions have started to feel overly manufactured. The focus is shifting to materials that feel more organic and less staged.

High-gloss flooring, whether in hardwood or tile, is another style taking a backseat. Though once prized for its polished, luxurious look, the upkeep has proven burdensome. These surfaces show every imperfection — from dust to scratches — making them far less desirable than today’s preferred matte or satin finishes that offer durability and a more subtle elegance.

Lastly, skinny wooden planks are falling out of favor. Though they’ve been popular in traditional interiors, their narrow design can make floors feel cluttered and dated. In contrast, wider planks are now preferred for their ability to open up a space, highlight natural wood grain, and contribute to a more refined, expansive feel.

As homeowners become more discerning, the focus is turning to flooring that combines beauty with functionality — choices that not only look good today but will continue to stand the test of time.

⚾ Ramírez Powers Guardians to 10-5 Comeback Win Over Orioles

The Cleveland Guardians kicked off their series against the Baltimore Orioles with a 10-5 win Monday night, sparked by José Ramírez’s three-run homer in the first inning. Though Baltimore briefly led 5-3 after a two-run shot by Ramón Laureano, Cleveland responded with seven unanswered runs.

Bo Naylor and Kyle Manzardo hit back-to-back solo homers in the fifth and sixth to tie and then take the lead. In the seventh, Brayan Rocchio drove in two with a single, and the Guardians added two more on bases-loaded walks to cap a four-run inning.

Tanner Bibee earned his second straight win, pitching seven innings and allowing five runs (three earned). Cleveland left 15 runners on base but overcame inefficiency at the plate by capitalizing late.

All-Star Steven Kwan returned from injury and reached base five times, while Ramírez reached 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases for the fifth consecutive season. Baltimore has now lost five of its last six.
