🏈 Mentor’s Luke Floriea Emerging as Browns Camp Standout

Mentor’s Luke Floriea Turning Heads at Browns Training Camp
While much of the spotlight at Cleveland Browns training camp is on the quarterback competition, one unexpected player is quickly making a name for himself — wide receiver Luke Floriea. The undrafted rookie from Mentor, Ohio is standing out early and could be on his way to earning a spot on the 53-man roster.
Floriea's football roots run deep in Northeast Ohio. A graduate of Mentor High School, he excelled as a dual-threat quarterback, helping lead the Cardinals to deep playoff runs and establishing himself as one of the area’s premier athletes. He chose to stay close to home by committing to Kent State, where he transitioned to wide receiver and became a steady contributor for the Golden Flashes.
Over 48 games at Kent State, Floriea racked up 100 receptions for 1,321 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also chipped in as a rusher and return specialist, showing versatility that is now catching the attention of the Browns coaching staff.
Despite entering training camp as a longshot, Floriea has consistently impressed. He’s become a frequent target for both rookie and veteran quarterbacks, including Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. A viral back-shoulder touchdown catch earlier this year hinted at his potential, and padded practices have only confirmed his reliability and route-running precision.
With few established names in the Browns’ receiving corps, Floriea is taking advantage of every rep. He’s showing the same grit and focus that made him a standout at Mentor High and Kent State, and now, he’s carrying that momentum onto the NFL’s biggest stage.
From Friday night lights in Lake County to summer Sundays at Browns camp, Luke Floriea’s local journey is becoming one of the most compelling stories in Cleveland this preseason.

🚍 Free August Rides as Laketran Expands to University Circle
Laketran is expanding its Park-n-Ride service with the launch of Route 13, offering direct weekday service from Painesville Township, Mentor, and Wickliffe to Cleveland’s University Circle starting Monday, August 4.
The new route provides Lake County commuters easier access to jobs, healthcare, education, and cultural destinations in one of the region’s fastest-growing employment hubs. University Circle now accounts for 21% of Cleveland’s healthcare jobs, with employment in the area growing by 37% since 2012.
Laketran reallocated underused trips from Routes 10 and 12 to create Route 13, keeping the expansion cost-neutral. Routes 10, 11, and 12 will continue to serve downtown Cleveland. The decision to shift resources was based on rider surveys and public input.
To encourage ridership, all Park-n-Ride routes will be free in August, including Route 13. Regular fares of $3.75 resume in September, with reduced rates for seniors, students, veterans, and people with disabilities.

🗺️ Discover 13 Stunning Natural Wonders Hidden Across Ohio

Ohio’s Top Natural Wonders That Will Leave You Speechless
Ohio may not have mountains or oceans, but it more than makes up for it with dramatic waterfalls, ancient rock formations, and natural sanctuaries that feel almost untouched. Across the state, hidden within lush parks and scenic trails, these five standout natural wonders offer a glimpse into the raw beauty of the Buckeye State.
Starting in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Brandywine Falls steals the show with a roaring 65-foot cascade. It's one of Ohio’s most powerful waterfalls, framed by a well-kept boardwalk that makes the journey both accessible and unforgettable. The thunder of the falls grows louder as you approach, culminating in a misty reward and a spectacular view that’s guaranteed to take your breath away.
Further south in the Hocking Hills region, Cedar Falls greets visitors with a steady stream of water tumbling into a sandstone gorge. Surrounded by hemlock trees and moss-covered rocks, this picture-perfect spot feels like a secret theater where nature performs an endless encore. It's a tranquil, almost magical destination that's ideal for reflection—or just cooling your feet in the stream.
Nearby, Old Man’s Cave offers a geological playground shaped by time. Layers of sedimentary rock form bridges, overhangs, and crevices that transport visitors into another era. As you descend into the gorge, you'll encounter formations with whimsical names and a network of trails that seem pulled from an adventure film. The cave itself, hollowed out over millennia, stands as a tribute to nature’s patience and power.
Ash Cave, also in Hocking Hills, makes an immediate impression with its sheer size. This vast recess cave is Ohio’s largest and feels like a natural cathedral. Towering stone walls curve around a sandy floor, and a seasonal waterfall adds an extra touch of drama. It’s one of the easiest destinations to access in the park, making it a favorite for families and casual hikers alike.
Rounding out the list is Blue Hen Falls, a modest yet charming waterfall hidden in Cuyahoga Valley. Though only 15 feet tall, it has an intimate appeal that draws in those looking for a quieter retreat. A short, scenic hike leads you to this tucked-away cascade, where the soft sounds of flowing water offer a peaceful backdrop to rest and recharge.
From towering falls to ancient caves, Ohio’s natural wonders deliver awe-inspiring experiences in every season. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a weekend wanderer, these destinations offer the kind of beauty that turns a simple walk in the woods into something unforgettable.

⚾ Cleveland Wins Fourth Straight Behind Ramírez, Naylor Heroics
Bo Naylor’s RBI double in the eighth inning lifted the Cleveland Guardians to a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, extending Cleveland’s winning streak to four. The game featured key hits and a dominant bullpen effort that helped seal the outcome.
Daniel Schneeman got Cleveland on the board with a solo homer in the third, while Minnesota took a brief lead in the fourth on Matt Wallner’s two-run shot. José Ramírez tied it in the fifth with a two-run homer, setting the stage for the late-game drama.
In the eighth, Ramírez singled, moved to second on Carlos Santana’s hit, and scored the go-ahead run on Naylor’s double to right field off Pierson Ohl.
Cleveland’s bullpen shut the door, retiring 13 of 14 batters and striking out 10. Nic Enright earned the win, while Hunter Gaddis struck out the side in the ninth for his first MLB save after allowing a leadoff double.
Rookie C.J. Kayfus made his MLB debut memorable by driving in a run with a groundout in his first at-bat.
Cleveland looks to sweep the series on Sunday, with Joey Cantillo set to face José Ureña in the finale.

⚾ Favors Sharp on the Mound as Lake County Tops Wisconsin
The Lake County Captains secured a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday, riding a strong performance from starting pitcher Caden Favors. The left-hander turned in six effective innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five and walking one. The win brought his season record to 4-8, along with a 4.72 ERA.
Lake County got on the board early in the first inning when Jaison Chourio hit a line-drive double to left, driving in a run and advancing another to third. A sacrifice fly shortly after added another run, giving the Captains a quick 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin managed to cut the deficit in the sixth inning with a groundout RBI, but the Captains quickly answered. In the seventh, a sacrifice fly restored their two-run cushion, and a two-run single by Chourio in the ninth sealed the game.
Lake County’s balanced offense and Favors’ efficient outing proved too much for the Timber Rattlers, who struggled to generate momentum at the plate.
