When the first wave of ripe cherry tomatoes spills into the market, its time to kick this recipe into gear. Gather the glossy red and golden orbs, their skins warm from the afternoon sun… marinate, prep the pasta … a bowl of summer you can twirl on a fork.

🏈 Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders Shines in Browns’ Preseason Win Over Panthers

Getty Images
Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made a strong first impression in his NFL preseason debut, helping the Cleveland Browns beat the Carolina Panthers 30-10 and drawing praise from NBA star LeBron James.
A fifth-round pick in April after an unexpected draft slide, Sanders started Friday night due to injuries on the depth chart. He completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns to Kaden Davis, leading three scoring drives in nearly three quarters of play.
After a scoreless start against Carolina’s starters, Sanders took advantage of a muffed punt recovery in the second quarter, firing a 7-yard touchdown between defenders. Just before halftime, he found Davis again for a 12-yard score, putting Cleveland ahead. Gage Larvadain added a 4-yard jet sweep touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead.
Carolina’s Bryce Young played two series, completing 4 of 6 passes for 58 yards and a 5-yard touchdown to Jalen Coker, who also made an acrobatic one-handed grab that was negated by penalty.
An early fight between Panthers receiver Xavier Legette and Browns cornerback Rayshawn Jenkins led to both being ejected after punches were thrown and a helmet was ripped off.
Cleveland visits Philadelphia on Aug. 16, while Carolina plays in Houston the same night.

⚾ Guardians’ First-Inning Outburst Fuels Win Over White Sox
he Cleveland Guardians continued their summer surge Friday night, jumping on the Chicago White Sox early with a five-run first inning en route to a 9-5 victory at Guaranteed Rate Field. The win improved Cleveland’s record to 60-55, marking the first time the team has been five games above .500 since early June.
The Guardians have now won eight of their last nine games and boast a 20-7 record over their past 27 contests — a remarkable turnaround following a 10-game losing streak from late June to early July.
Friday’s explosive start was fueled by C.J. Kayfus, whose bases-clearing double rocketed off the right-field wall at nearly 110 mph, and Carlos Santana, who delivered a two-run double. Santana went 2-for-4 on the night, driving in four runs to lead the offense.
Strong early offense, consistent play, and steady adjustments have propelled Cleveland back into playoff contention, as the team looks to maintain momentum through the rest of the series.
⚾ Captains Cruise Past Dragons 6-1 Behind Favors’ Scoreless Start
The Lake County Captains secured a decisive 6-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Friday night, powered by strong pitching and timely hitting. Starter Caden Favors (5-8 4.45 ERA) set the tone, delivering five scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out six. The Captains’ bullpen maintained control, limiting Dayton to a single unearned run over the final four frames.
Lake County’s offense built an early lead and never looked back. In the second inning, Kevin Rivas put the Captains on the board with a run-scoring single. He added to the lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. The game broke open in the sixth when Jaison Chourio drove in two runs with a single, followed by Ralphy Velazquez’s two-run double, pushing the score to 6-0. Dayton managed its only run in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout that plated Carter Graham.
The win continues Lake County’s push in the standings. They remain 4 games back of West Michigan who is red hot right now.
