🌳 Street Tree Program Beautifies Mentor, Encourages Resident Involvement

Mentor Launches Free Tree Program to Enhance Neighborhood Beauty and Manage Stormwater

Mentor residents have a fresh opportunity to green up their neighborhoods through the city’s Street Tree Program, an initiative aimed at enhancing the appearance of local streets while also supporting stormwater management.

Each year, the city offers a limited number of trees at no cost to residents. These trees are planted by city workers within the public right-of-way, helping to improve curb appeal and promote environmental health. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is available during both the spring and fall planting seasons.

Residents interested in receiving a tree must complete the Mentor Street Tree Order Form to be considered. All planting work is handled by city personnel, making it an easy and accessible way for residents to contribute to the city's beautification efforts.

For further details or assistance with the application, the Public Works Department is available via phone or email.

✈️ Trending Fall Destinations + Travel Discounts You Can’t Miss

Galena Territory, Illinois | aldrichguesthouse.com

Leaf-peeping, crisp air, and cheaper flights… fall travel has never looked this good.

As the leaves begin to change, Americans are looking for affordable ways to enjoy the season without venturing far from home. This fall, several U.S. destinations are trending, offering both scenic beauty and wallet-friendly travel options.

Top Trending Destinations

  • Oro Valley, Arizona has topped national lists for fall getaways. With cooler desert temperatures and dramatic landscapes, it’s a perfect shoulder-season escape.

  • Evergreen, Colorado is drawing leaf-peepers with its mountain trails and crisp autumn air.

  • Kanab, Utah offers red rock vistas without the summer crowds, while The Galena Territory, Illinois charms with its lakeside views and rolling foliage.

  • In the Southeast, Asheville, North Carolina continues to shine as one of the most affordable foliage spots in the country. The Blue Ridge Parkway provides some of the best scenic drives in America.

Deals That Match the Destinations
Good news for fall travelers—airfare is down across many routes, with some domestic flights discounted by double digits compared to summer. Asheville stands out not only as a top foliage destination but also for having some of the lowest average airfare this season.

Bundled packages from providers like Expedia and Costco Travel are helping families stretch their dollars further with perks like free nights or waived resort fees. For those looking west, Utah and Colorado rentals are widely available at lower mid-season rates, while Arizona packages often include discounted resort stays.

Why Travel Now?
Experts note that September through November is becoming a “sweet spot” for travel: smaller crowds, better prices, and seasonal festivals that add local flavor. Whether you’re seeking mountain trails, desert sunsets, or small-town charm, fall 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most rewarding times to explore the U.S.—without overspending.

⚾ Kayfus, Noel Power Guardians Past White Sox in 3-1 Win

The Cleveland Guardians extended their late-season surge with a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night at Progressive Field, powered by home runs and strong pitching.

Rookie C.J. Kayfus opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning off Davis Martin. It was his second big home run this week, following a similar shot in Thursday’s win over Kansas City.

Now 77-71, Cleveland has won nine of its last 11 games and remains in the hunt for the final AL wild-card spot.

Left-hander Parker Messick delivered another quality start, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. The rookie is 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA in five starts since debuting on August 20.

Chicago scored in the first inning when Lenyn Sosa drove in Chase Meidroth on a grounder that skipped under first baseman Kyle Manzardo’s glove. Meidroth extended his hitting streak to nine games, batting .484 during that span.

After a shaky start, Messick escaped further damage with a double play to end the first. The Guardians’ bullpen held the lead, with Cade Smith earning his 14th save.

Pinch-hitter Jhonkensy Noel added insurance in the eighth with a solo homer, his fourth of the season.

Cleveland has now won 14 of its last 16 games against the White Sox, taking a 1,134-1,131 lead in the all-time series.

The series concludes Sunday with Slade Cecconi (6-6, 4.45 ERA) starting for the Guardians against Yoendrys Gómez (3-2, 5.05 ERA) of the White Sox.

🏈 Ohio State Predicted to Flip NC State Commit, Local OL Landry Brede

Ohio State Aiming to Flip Local Offensive Line Recruit Committed to NC State

The Ohio State football program is looking to strengthen its 2026 recruiting class, and signs point to a potential flip of three-star offensive lineman Landry Brede, currently committed to NC State. Brede, a 6'5", 280-pound tackle from Mentor, Ohio, has been committed since June, but Rivals now predicts a switch to the Buckeyes.

Despite winning a national championship last season, Ohio State currently holds the ninth-best recruiting class in the nation—lower than usual under head coach Ryan Day. The Buckeyes are working to rebound by targeting in-state talent and adding depth.

If Brede joins, he would be the fifth offensive lineman in the class, all of whom are three-star prospects. First-year offensive line coach Tyler Bowen is focusing on building depth and developing long-term starters. Future recruiting success could improve further once athletic director Ross Bjork resumes NIL efforts.

With Early Signing Day three months away, there's time to build momentum. While Brede hasn't officially flipped, an announcement may be coming soon.
