📰 New Fire Station, Golf Simulator Expansion Advance in Local Development Push

Planning Commission Reviews Expansion Projects, Approves New Fire Station and Industrial Facility

At its September 25, 2025 meeting, the city's Planning Commission approved several major development projects while tabling one for further revisions. An indoor golf simulator business on Tyler Boulevard received approval to expand into a larger space to accommodate increased customer demand. The city’s busiest fire station—Station No. 3—was granted site plan and architectural approval for a new facility on Plaza Boulevard, which will include modernized living quarters and a training tower.

Also approved was a preliminary site plan for a 158,000-square-foot industrial building on Hamilton Drive. The developers committed to improving fire safety by enhancing water pressure in the area. Meanwhile, a proposed accessory storage building at Norton Parkway was tabled after commissioners requested architectural upgrades to better align with surrounding buildings.

🥩 Effortless Flavor: Mississippi Pot Roast Is the Weeknight Dinner Hero

This is no ordinary pot roast. Packed with bold, comforting flavors, this dish comes together with almost no effort thanks to a few store-bought shortcuts. A packet of ranch dressing mix, a packet of French onion soup mix, and a handful of tangy pepperoncini peppers transform a simple chuck roast into a savory, fork-tender dinner. The best part? Prep is minimal—just add everything to your slow cooker and let it do the work. The result is a juicy, flavorful roast with a little zip that pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes, rice, or even piled onto a sandwich bun.

🥧 One Skillet, All Comfort: Chicken Pot Pie Gets a Flaky Puff Pastry Upgrade

Few dishes capture the essence of comfort food quite like a classic chicken pot pie—but this version takes things up a notch with a modern twist and minimal fuss. Instead of the traditional pie crust, it features a golden, buttery puff pastry topper that brings irresistible flakiness to every bite.

⚾ Guardians Fall to Rangers, Remain Locked with Detroit in Division Race

The Texas Rangers struck early and held on for a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night at Progressive Field. Despite the loss, Cleveland remains tied with Detroit for the top spot in the AL Central.

Texas jumped ahead in the first inning when Rowdy Tellez hit an RBI double, followed by Alejandro Osuna’s three-run homer to right-center. Cleveland answered with a two-run shot from Kyle Manzardo in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t close the gap.

Rookie Jack Leiter delivered another strong outing for the Rangers, matching his career high with 10 strikeouts over seven innings. The 25-year-old allowed just two runs on four hits, repeating his dominant August performance against Cleveland.

The Rangers added insurance in the seventh with a two-run single from Cody Freeman and an RBI hit from Jake Burger, extending the lead to 7-2. Cleveland managed only one more run and dropped consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month.

With the postseason looming, Cleveland’s fate is still in their control. The Guardians’ magic number to clinch a playoff spot is one — either a win or an Astros loss would secure it. For the division title, their magic number is two, factoring in both wins and Detroit losses. In the event of a tie after Sunday’s games, Cleveland would claim the AL Central crown based on their head-to-head advantage over Detroit this season.

Texas snapped a rough stretch with just its second win in ten games. Osuna, who’s batting .211 on the season, has been hot in September with a .304 average and hits in eight of his last nine games.

The series continues Saturday with Jacob Latz starting for Texas and Joey Cantillo taking the mound for Cleveland.

🏈 Cardinals Stay Unbeaten with Dominant Defensive Effort

Mentor Cardinals Shut Out Cleveland Heights in Dominant 35–0 Victory

The Mentor Cardinals stayed perfect on the season with a 35–0 shutout win over Cleveland Heights on Friday night, improving to 6-0.

The tone was set early when junior linebacker Colten Pollock broke through to block a Tigers punt, scooping it up and running it in for the opening touchdown midway through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, senior running back Dominic Burns powered in from nine yards out to double the lead. Not long after, senior Jackson Farley continued his stellar season with a one-yard scoring plunge, sending Mentor into halftime ahead 21–0.

The Cardinals’ defense wasn’t done. An interception late in the third set up a long completion from junior quarterback Brogan Jones to senior wideout Justen Hodge, putting Mentor in scoring position. Jones capped the drive with a short touchdown strike to Hodge, stretching the advantage to 28–0.

Another defensive stand gave the Cardinals the ball back, and Farley sealed the night with his second rushing score.

With a balanced offense, a defense that forced multiple turnovers, and big plays from all three phases, Mentor left no doubt in this Northeast Ohio matchup.

🏈 Lake Catholic Falls Short in Comeback Attempt as CVCA Stays Unbeaten

Lake Catholic’s four game winning streak came to an end in a 28-21 loss to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA), with explosive plays and a dominant ground game defining the matchup.

The Cougars forced three turnovers, including a fourth-quarter fumble recovery by Brady Moran that sparked hope for a late rally. Quarterback Liam Coyne quickly connected with Guy Dominick for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to one score with under five minutes left.

But CVCA sealed the win with an 11-play drive, running out the clock and keeping their perfect season intact.

Both teams struck early, trading long opening drives. CVCA’s Charley Levak found Brayden Harris for the game’s first touchdown, while Lake Catholic responded with a 75-yard drive capped by Danny Zmorowski’s three-yard score. CVCA answered quickly with another Levak-to-Harris connection, this time for 59 yards.

Lake Catholic’s defense continued to create opportunities, with Marty Loncar recovering a fumble and Joey Nagy intercepting a pass just before halftime. Zmorowski added a second touchdown, but the Cougars failed to capitalize on a late first-half drive inside the 25-yard line.

After the break, CVCA extended its lead with a short touchdown run by Joey Kopec, his second of the game. From there, the Royals relied entirely on the run, gaining all 117 of their second-half yards on the ground.

Kopec led all rushers with 102 yards on 16 carries as CVCA totaled 240 rushing yards. Zmorowski led Lake Catholic with 93 yards and two touchdowns, while Dominick finished with 56 receiving yards and a score.

Lake Catholic now sits at 4-2, while CVCA improves to 6-0. The Cougars head to Elyria Catholic on Oct. 3, and CVCA visits Holy Name on Oct. 4.
