Mentor Police Officers Honored for Heroic Life-Saving Effort
Real Heros. Two Mentor Police Department officers have been recognized for their swift and heroic actions that helped save a man’s life earlier this year. Patrolmen Skoczen and Haddad were awarded the prestigious Life Saving Award by the Lake County Chiefs of Police Association for their critical response to a cardiac emergency on June 8, 2025.
The officers' quick thinking and decisive action during the incident played a vital role in stabilizing the individual and ensuring he received the medical attention needed in time. Their professionalism and composure under pressure earned them commendation from both the association and their department.

🍺 Mentor Brewing Company to Close After 15 Years as Owners Retire

Mentor Brewing Company to Close Doors at End of 2025 as Owners Retire
Mentor Brewing Company, a beloved local spot for craft beer lovers, will be pouring its final pints this December as the owners prepare to retire and step away from the business. The brewery is officially set to close on January 1, 2026.
Founded in 2010 by Brian Seelinger and Rick Mack, the business originally operated as a home beer and wine supply store on Diamond Centre Drive in Mentor. Over time, a small in-store tap system—initially offered for shoppers to enjoy while browsing—evolved into a full-fledged brewery. In 2019, the space expanded to include a back patio, making it a popular local hangout for casual afternoons and community gatherings.
After 15 years of service to the Mentor community, the owners have decided to retire and focus on family life. They described the choice as difficult but guided by a desire to embrace the next phase of their lives.
The brewery and its building are now up for sale, with the owners inviting potential buyers to inquire about what they describe as “a great opportunity.” In the meantime, customers are encouraged to visit and celebrate the final few months of operation, raising a glass in honor of the memories made over the years.

📰 Lake County I-90 Rest Areas to Close for Major Rebuild Starting October 14
Rest Stops on I-90 in Lake County to Close for Major Overhaul
Travelers on I-90 in Lake County, Ohio, should prepare for changes as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) moves forward with plans to demolish and rebuild both the eastbound and westbound rest areas. Starting October 14, these stops will shut down entirely—including parking access—to make way for new, modern facilities.
The current rest areas, constructed in 1983, are set to be replaced with lodge-style buildings that will offer indoor vending options and showcase Ohio tourism information. ODOT expects demolition to occur during the winter months, with construction beginning in spring 2026. The entire project is anticipated to take roughly a year to complete.
Once these facilities close, drivers will need to plan alternative stops. For those heading westbound, the nearest rest areas will be located on State Route 2 in Vermilion or along the Ohio Turnpike. Notably, the Lake County location marks the final rest stop for motorists traveling eastbound on I-90 before exiting Ohio.

🐶 Brooklyn Eatery Serves Up High-End Menu Just for Dogs
Brooklyn Restaurant Launches Gourmet Menu Just for Dogs
Brooklyn's dining scene is embracing its furriest patrons with a unique twist: a gourmet menu made exclusively for dogs. Starting September 27, popular Williamsburg seafood spot Sea Wolf is rolling out a dedicated canine menu titled "À La Bark" — a tail-wagging three-course experience designed for dogs, using only "human-grade" ingredients.
The new offering includes dog-friendly appetizers like salmon jerky, hearty entrées such as beef with sweet potatoes or turkey with blueberries, and a dessert of creamy coconut "puppuccino." Priced at $9, the prix-fixe pup menu is a bargain compared to Sea Wolf’s typical seafood fare.
This dog-dining development comes as more pet owners seek to include their animals in all aspects of their lives, especially when it comes to health and nutrition. Sea Wolf’s management said the restaurant has always been a dog-friendly destination, and introducing a dedicated menu simply felt like a natural extension of that culture.
To ensure quality and freshness, Sea Wolf partnered with premium dog food brand Ollie to design the menu. Ingredients are stored separately and delivered weekly, and a dedicated kitchen team handles all preparation.
The canine culinary trend arrives as New Yorkers increasingly demand more accommodations for pets in public spaces. While some celebrate the growing presence of dogs in restaurants, others remain skeptical about mixing food service with furry companions, especially given the ongoing tension between public health regulations and accessibility laws.
Regardless of the debate, Sea Wolf’s latest move solidifies its place at the forefront of New York City’s pet-welcoming dining revolution — one bowl at a time.

⚾ Guardians Rally Late to Beat Tigers 6-1, Keep Season Alive
Guardians Rally Behind Rocchio’s Surprise Homer to Force Game 3
The Cleveland Guardians kept their postseason hopes alive on Wednesday with a dramatic 6-1 win over the Detroit Tigers, forcing a decisive Game 3 in the American League Wild Card Series.
Locked in a tight 1-1 contest heading into the eighth inning, the game turned when Brayan Rocchio stepped up with one out and launched a blistering 99.9 mph fastball into the right-field seats. The unexpected homer broke the tie and sparked a five-run outburst that flipped the game on its head.
The moment was a fitting chapter in Rocchio’s rollercoaster season. Once sent back to Triple-A after early struggles, he returned to contribute in a big way during Cleveland’s improbable playoff push. His go-ahead homer—against fierce shadows and gusty winds—was just the second by a Guardians player off a pitch that fast in over a decade.
Before the eighth inning, Cleveland’s offense had been mostly quiet, managing just two hits following George Valera’s first-inning home run. Meanwhile, Detroit left 15 runners stranded, repeatedly failing to capitalize on scoring chances.
Cleveland’s bullpen worked out of jam after jam, keeping the game close until the late-inning eruption. Bo Naylor capped the Guardians’ eighth-inning rally with a three-run shot, turning a nail-biter into a comfortable victory.
For the Tigers, it’s another missed chance to close out a playoff series against Cleveland. They’ve now lost three straight elimination games to the Guardians, going a combined 3-for-38 with runners in scoring position over those contests.
Both teams will now face a winner-takes-all Game 3, but Cleveland enters with momentum and experience playing under pressure—something they've grown accustomed to during a season full of uphill battles.
