📰 Mentor’s Citizens Police Academy Launches with Jail Tours and 911 Simulations

Mentor Police Department
The 2025 Citizens Police Academy in Mentor is off to a strong start, welcoming an enthusiastic group of residents ready to learn more about local law enforcement.
Chief Gunsch opened the evening with a welcome and an overview of the weeks ahead, which will include sessions on patrol operations, investigations, and hands-on demonstrations.
Corrections Officer Scimenes led a detailed tour of the Mentor City Jail, giving participants an inside look at the booking process and procedures that ensure safety for inmates and staff.
Officer Radigan followed with a walkthrough of the police department, introducing cadets to various divisions and the spaces where officers work around the clock.
The evening wrapped up with an interactive session led by dispatchers Erica and Tori. Cadets practiced handling mock 911 calls and listened to real emergency audio, learning just how quickly dispatchers must act during crises.
It was an informative and engaging start to the academy, setting the stage for more learning and hands-on experiences in the weeks ahead.

⚡ Neighborhood Utility Poles Get 10-Year Check-Up for Safety Assurance

City of Mentor
Residents may notice crews from Davey Resource Group working in local neighborhoods over the coming weeks. These teams are conducting inspections of utility poles on behalf of FirstEnergy as part of a routine 10-year maintenance cycle. The inspections are aimed at assessing the structural integrity of the poles to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the area's electric service.
This proactive effort is a standard part of FirstEnergy’s infrastructure management, designed to identify and address potential issues before they become problems. If any inspections require access to private property, crew members will notify residents by knocking on their doors prior to entering.

📰 Mentor Seeks Sculptors for James A. Garfield Statue Unveiling in 2026
The City of Mentor is seeking sculptors nationwide for a major public art project: a life-size statue of President James A. Garfield, set to be unveiled on July 4, 2026, in honor of America’s 250th Independence Day.
To begin the process, the City has issued a Request for Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), with submissions due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Applicants must provide a five-page narrative addressing qualifications based on experience, staff, availability, past work, and approach with timeline. Up to two pages of images showing previous sculptures may also be submitted.
The selected artist will work with city officials to finalize the statue’s design and materials, create a timeline with key milestones, and oversee installation on a city-prepared foundation. Attendance at the dedication ceremony is required.
The project is funded through city resources, private foundations, and federal grants. Mentor will follow a qualifications-based selection process and may reject any or all submissions.
Questions can be directed to Grant Supervisor Kevin Grippi at (440) 974-5714 or [email protected]
Does your car insurance cover what really matters?
Not all car insurance is created equal. Minimum liability coverage may keep you legal on the road, but it often won’t be enough to cover the full cost of an accident. Without proper limits, you could be left paying thousands out of pocket. The right policy ensures you and your finances are protected. A Mission Beyond Pain Relief
The Wellness Connection was founded on the idea that true health is more than simply eliminating discomfort. While therapy mats remain central to services—helping clients with arthritis, neuropathy, back or knee pain, and post-surgery recovery—the studio goes further.

This individualized approach makes every plan unique. “Sometimes clients need strategies for better rest, sometimes they need hydration tips, and sometimes they need encouragement,” the owner said. “We meet people where they are.”
Innovative Products, Real Results
The studio’s small but expanding retail space allows clients and local residents alike to access carefully chosen wellness products. One standout addition is a water additive infused with molecular hydrogen. Many clients say it helps clear brain fog, supports gut health, and provides long-lasting energy without the crash of caffeine.
One client shared that after adding the supplement, they felt sharper at work and had the endurance to finish evening workouts—something they hadn’t experienced in years. These success stories illustrate how small, natural tools can make a big difference in daily living.
What Sets the Studio Apart
Unlike larger, clinical environments, The Wellness Connection focuses on attentive listening and holistic solutions. Sessions aren’t rushed, and each client’s goals guide the process. This human-centered model has helped the studio earn trust in Mentor’s growing wellness community.
“We take a natural and holistic approach to everything we do,” the owner explained. “With the right therapies and supplements, everyone has the chance to live a healthier, happier, pain-free life.”
Looking Ahead
The Wellness Connection plans to expand product offerings and host events to share simple, science-backed practices for better sleep, hydration, and energy. These sessions will be approachable and practical, giving Mentor residents tools they can use immediately.
“Health is a journey, not a destination,” the owner said. “We want to walk that journey with people, wherever they are starting from.”

🏈 Tomlin Slams Browns for Trading Flacco to Division Rival Bengals
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t hiding his frustration with a division rival ahead of a crucial AFC North clash.
As the Steelers gear up to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football, Tomlin has raised concerns about a recent quarterback move involving the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers, at 4-1, will travel to face the 2-4 Bengals in a primetime showdown on Amazon Prime.
What’s irking Tomlin isn’t the Bengals’ struggles but the presence of quarterback Joe Flacco — a familiar AFC North figure who began this season with the Browns. Cleveland recently traded Flacco to Cincinnati following an injury to Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, a move Tomlin views as questionable.
Tomlin criticized Cleveland’s decision to send a veteran quarterback, once trusted to start the season, to a divisional rival in need of help. The implication: the Browns may have bolstered a competitor just as the division race intensifies.
Flacco, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2013, flashed that experience in last week’s loss to Green Bay, completing 29 of 45 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor praised Flacco’s poise in a tough spot, especially during the game’s final moments as they attempted a comeback.
With Thursday night’s game approaching, Tomlin’s remarks add fuel to an already tense divisional matchup. Kickoff is at 8:15 p.m. ET, streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime.
