If you have moved, you could save on car insurance
Did you move recently? Car insurance rules vary widely from state to state. Minimum liability requirements in one state may be far below what’s required in another. A best practice is to compare coverage limits and shop around for quotes whenever you move, rather than just updating your old policy. 🍲 Willoughby Chili Cook-Off Returns with Flavor, Festivities, and School Spirit

Downtown Willoughby’s Annual Chili Cook-Off: Flavor, Fun, and Community Spirit
Downtown Willoughby will come alive with the warmth of chili and community camaraderie as the 15th annual Chili Cook-Off returns on October 18. Organized by the Downtown Willoughby Bar and Restaurant Association, the event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and serves as a lively fundraiser supporting the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District.
A key highlight this year includes a mini parade featuring students and staff from the school district. The parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting from Wes Point Park and concluding near the Willoughby Post Office.
What began as a small experiment to test the potential for larger-scale downtown events has since grown into a community favorite. The Chili Cook-Off laid the groundwork for other major gatherings like the Rib Burn-Off, establishing itself as a tradition in its own right.
Fourteen local restaurants will compete in this year’s cook-off, with thousands expected to attend. Guests will sample a variety of unique chili recipes and cast votes for their favorite, adding a layer of friendly rivalry to the festivities.
With over 8,000 attendees typically making their way through downtown during the event, the day serves not only as a culinary showcase but also as a celebration of local connections, school pride, and neighborhood engagement.

📰 Mentor Commission OKs New Projects, Delays Housing Plan
The Planning Commission met on Oct. 16 and approved several development proposals:
✅ New Daycare Center on Lakeshore Blvd received approval with safety conditions, including an AED requirement.
✅ Acupuncture Office Relocation to St. Clair Ave approved with accessibility upgrades.
✅ Accessory Building at Norton Parkway passed after material revisions.
✅ Community Greenhouse project for local produce donations approved on Lakeshore Blvd.
✅ Corduroy Pizza got the green light for a new awning with signage.
✅ Industrial Site Plan for a new facility on Hamilton Drive approved, with adjusted parking requirements.
However, a proposed revision to the Bolton Property master plan—a major residential development—was tabled. Concerns centered on legal constraints and potential inconsistencies with the 2019 court-approved plan.
👉 Next Meeting: 2026 schedule approved, with a July date shift due to the holiday.

🏈 Cardinals Soar Past Titans in 38-6 Rout Ahead of Playoffs

Mentor Cardinals Dominate Lorain Titans to Stay Undefeated at 9-0
The Mentor Cardinals kept their perfect season intact with a commanding 38-6 road win over the Lorain Titans on Friday night, improving to 9-0 as the playoffs approach. The victory came on a warm October evening where Mentor’s explosive offense and disciplined defense proved too much for the struggling Titans, who dropped to 2-7.
Lorain opened with some momentum, reaching midfield after a quarterback switch. But Mentor took over on downs and quickly struck with a 65-yard pitch run for the game's first touchdown. After Lorain’s quarterback left the game with an injury, Mentor extended their lead with a deep 54-yard touchdown pass, ending the first quarter up 14-0.
In the second quarter, Mentor added a rushing touchdown and a field goal, pulling ahead 24-0. Both defenses held firm for the rest of the half, but the Cardinals were firmly in control going into the break.
Mentor struck again early in the third quarter with another touchdown pass, before Lorain responded with a 60-yard drive capped by a short passing touchdown—their only score of the night. The Cardinals answered immediately with another long touchdown pass to push the lead to 38-6.
The fourth quarter slowed considerably as both teams shifted to conservative play. Mentor cruised to victory, showcasing their postseason readiness with another complete performance.
Looking ahead, Mentor will host Euclid in their season finale, while Lorain travels to Medina, hoping to finish the season on a more positive note.
🏈 Lake Catholic Cruises Past Holy Name in 35-14 Rout

Lake Catholic Rolls Over Holy Name Behind Max Pisano’s Five-Touchdown Showcase
Lake Catholic extended its winning streak to three games with a decisive 35-14 victory over Holy Name on Friday night. Fueled by a dominant first-half performance, the Cougars took control early and never looked back, improving their record to 7-2 on the season.
Quarterback Max Pisano delivered a standout performance, accounting for all five of Lake Catholic’s touchdowns. He threw for 198 yards and three scores while adding 60 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Pisano's outing also marked a new career-best passer rating of 132.2.
Receiver Peter Malchesky continued to be a reliable weapon, hauling in 50 yards and two touchdowns through the air. But it wasn’t just the passing game doing damage—Lake Catholic’s rushing attack was relentless, racking up 228 yards. It marked the fourth straight game in which the Cougars have topped 150 yards on the ground.
The game was largely decided by halftime, with Lake Catholic leading 28-7 at the break. Holy Name couldn’t recover and has now lost three of its last four, dropping to 5-4 on the season.
Looking ahead, Lake Catholic will face a familiar rival in Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at noon on Saturday. Holy Name will try to regroup when they face Padua Franciscan in a rivalry matchup Friday night.
