🚨 Mentor Recovers from Cyberattack; Most City Services Back Online

Mentor Recovers from Cyberattack, Most Services Restored

The City of Mentor recently experienced a cyberattack that prompted officials to take precautionary action by temporarily taking hosted servers offline to protect sensitive data. At this time, there is no evidence that any private information was accessed or released as a result of the breach.

City staff have been actively working to restore integrated systems in line with their established recovery plan. Phone services were initially disrupted but have largely been restored. By the start of business on Monday, October 27, all general administrative phone lines — including those for the Mentor Police Department and Mentor Municipal Court — are expected to be fully operational.

Critical emergency services remain unaffected. Both 9-1-1 and the city’s non-emergency dispatch line at 440-255-1234 have continued to operate without interruption, and residents are encouraged to use these numbers as needed.

Despite the attack, city operations have continued without interruption. However, residents may experience temporary delays in accessing certain data or online services during the restoration process. Anyone experiencing difficulties or service disruptions is advised to call the main number for the appropriate department or reach out via email for assistance.

City officials expressed appreciation for residents’ patience and understanding and assured that updates will be provided if additional service disruptions occur.

🏈 Mentor’s 31-0 Win Over Euclid Marred by On-Field Fights and Coach Injury

The Mentor Cardinals wrapped up a flawless 10-0 regular season on Oct. 24 with a commanding 31-0 shutout over the visiting Euclid Panthers at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals not only secured their second consecutive undefeated season — a feat not achieved since the early 1950s — but also earned a first-round bye in the upcoming OHSAA playoffs.

Now firmly in playoff mode, the Cardinals will host a second-round matchup on Nov. 7 against a team yet to be determined.

Mentor’s defense has been a relentless force all season, and their final regular-season game was no exception. The unit delivered its fourth shutout in six games, highlighted by three interceptions — two by Xayvion Dunn and one by Drew Morgan — to completely stifle Euclid's offense.

Offensively, Mentor struck early and often. A 21-yard field goal by freshman kicker Danny Kristo opened the scoring, followed by a short touchdown pass from quarterback Brogan Jones to receiver Justen Hodge. Running back Burns added two touchdowns on the ground in the second quarter, and Ryan Orsog tacked on another score before Kristo’s fourth extra point rounded out the victory.

Despite the dominant win, the Cardinals struggled with ball security, turning the ball over three times inside Euclid territory, including a pair of interceptions and a fumble in the red zone. These miscues provide a clear area of focus as the team prepares for its postseason run.

The game took a troubling turn late in the second quarter when a physical altercation broke out near the Euclid sideline. A Panthers player aggressively brought down Burns after a play, triggering a scuffle that left Euclid’s head coach, Damion Creel, injured while attempting to break it up. He was treated on the field and later transported to a hospital.

Tensions continued into the fourth quarter with another skirmish near the Mentor bench, and repeated penalties on both teams disrupted the flow of the game. In light of the incidents, traditional postgame handshakes were skipped, with Mentor players instead regrouping in the end zone for their postgame meeting.

Key players were also given the night off to prepare for the playoffs. Seniors Jackson Farley and Landry Brede were rested as the team looks to stay healthy for a deep postseason run.

With another dominant regular season in the books, Mentor’s focus now shifts to the next challenge: making it count in November.

🏈 Cougars and Lions Ready for Showdown in Mentor Today

The stage is set for a high-stakes rematch as the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions travel to Mentor this Saturday to take on the Lake Catholic Cougars at Jerome T. Osborne Sr. Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM, with gates opening an hour earlier at 11:00 AM.

Both teams enter the game with identical 7-2 records and plenty of momentum following commanding wins in their most recent outings.

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin made a statement last Friday against Elyria Catholic, cruising to a dominant 45-21 victory. The Lions stormed ahead by scoring 45 points through three quarters, putting the game out of reach before the Panthers could mount any meaningful comeback.

Lake Catholic was equally impressive in their last performance, rolling past Holy Name in a 35-14 rout. By halftime, the Cougars had built a commanding 28-7 lead, thanks in large part to a breakout showing from quarterback Max Pisano. Pisano passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns—setting a personal best—while adding 60 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. Running back Peter Malchesky also chipped in with a pair of touchdowns.

The Cougars' ground game continues to be a major force, racking up 228 rushing yards against Holy Name. Saturday’s matchup marks their fourth consecutive game surpassing 150 rushing yards, underscoring the strength of their offensive line and rushing depth.

This isn’t the first meeting between these two programs. Last October, Lake Catholic handed Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin a 26-17 loss. With a shot at redemption, the Lions will look to turn the tables this time around.
