Mentor Police Fill Patrol Vehicles with Holiday Donations in Annual Drive
The Mentor Police Department recently concluded its 12th Annual Fill-A-Cruiser food drive, once again showcasing the generosity of the local community. This year, officers filled two and a half police SUVs with non-perishable food and raised $1,846 in cash donations to assist families during the holiday season.
All contributions were delivered to St. Bede in North Mentor and St. Mary in South Mentor, both of which run food assistance programs supporting area residents.
The department thanked the community, Giant Eagle for hosting, and the officers who volunteered their time. The annual event continues to be a powerful reminder of how local support and law enforcement can come together to spread holiday cheer.

💰 How to Tap Home Equity When You Own Your House Outright
Yes, You Can Get a Loan on a Fully Paid-Off Home — Here’s How
Homeowners who have fully paid off their mortgage often wonder whether they can still take out a loan — and the answer is yes. If you own your home outright, you can leverage its equity to access cash through various lending options. This can be a strategic way to fund major expenses such as renovations, debt consolidation, or large purchases, all without having to sell your home.
The most common methods to borrow against a mortgage-free home include home equity loans, home equity lines of credit (HELOCs), cash-out refinancing, and reverse mortgages. There are also alternative options like sale-leaseback agreements and shared equity programs, which may suit those with lower credit scores.
Most lenders will allow you to borrow up to 80% of your home’s appraised value, although this limit may vary. Since your home serves as collateral, these loans usually offer more favorable interest rates compared to unsecured borrowing methods like credit cards.
To qualify, lenders will look closely at your credit score, debt-to-income ratio (DTI), and loan-to-value (LTV) ratio. While borrowing against your home can provide substantial benefits, it also comes with risks — including the potential for foreclosure if payments are missed and reduced equity in your property.
Choosing the right loan depends on your financial needs. For a one-time large expense, a home equity loan or cash-out refinance may be ideal. If you need flexible, ongoing access to funds, a HELOC might be better. Seniors 62 and older can also consider a reverse mortgage, which offers access to equity without monthly repayment obligations.
Regardless of the loan type, it's essential to compare multiple lenders, understand closing costs (typically 2%–5% of the loan), and ensure you only borrow what you need. By doing so, homeowners can make informed decisions that preserve both financial stability and long-term homeownership.

🏈 Garrett Shines, but Browns Fall to Ravens in Sanders’ NFL Debut
Andrews’ Late TD Pushes Ravens Past Browns, Spoils Sanders’ Debut
The Baltimore Ravens secured a 23-16 comeback win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, powered by a late 35-yard touchdown run from Mark Andrews and a strong defensive finish.
Facing fourth-and-inches with just over two minutes left, Baltimore faked a quarterback sneak, allowing Andrews to break free for the game-winning score. It was his first career rushing touchdown and capped a rally that gave Baltimore its fourth consecutive victory, improving to 5-5 after a 1-5 start.
Earlier, Andrews became Baltimore’s all-time leader in receiving yards, finishing with 32 yards on three catches.
Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders entered in the third quarter after Dillon Gabriel exited with a concussion. Sanders completed 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards with an interception and a 13.5 passer rating. His final drive ended on a failed fourth-down pass at the Ravens’ 25.
Derrick Henry rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Loop added three field goals for Baltimore.
Cleveland’s lone touchdown came on defense. Linebacker Devin Bush intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 23 yards for a score, giving the Browns a 13-3 lead in the second quarter.
Myles Garrett led the Browns defensively with four sacks, becoming the first NFL player with five straight seasons of at least 13 sacks. He now leads the league with 15.
The Browns (2-8) have now dropped three straight games.
