Those who receive curbside trash service can place up to 25 units of yard waste at the curb on their regular trash day. Each unit counts as one bag, one bundle, or one container of yard debris. Be a Santa to a Senior Returns to Mentor for 2025 Holiday Season
A cherished holiday tradition returns to Mentor this year, spreading joy to local seniors who may otherwise feel forgotten. āBe a Santa to a Seniorā started on November 17th but the giving tree is still on display in the Mentor Municipal Center lobby, inviting the community to help brighten the season for Lake County seniors in need.
Organized by Home Instead Senior Care, the program gathers practical gifts for older adults. Each ornament-shaped tag on the tree lists modest requests like bath towels, toiletries, stamps, and clothingāeveryday essentials that can mean a lot.
Community members can select a tag, shop for the listed gift, and return itātag attachedāto the box near the tree by December 5, 2025.
Every senior also receives a handwritten letter from a local honor society student, a handmade holiday card, and a personal phone call, bringing warmth and connection during a season that can feel isolating.
The Mentor Municipal Center, located at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard, is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offering a convenient drop-off spot for participants.
With just a small gesture, residents can help ensure no senior spends the holidays alone. To learn more, visit www.beasantatoasenior.com or call 440-729-5888.

š St. Edward and Mentor Set for Another Classic in Regional Final Showdown

Heart and Grit: Mentor's Season Ends in Rain-Soaked Battle
On a rainy November 21 night at Byers Field, the Mentor Cardinals' remarkable football season came to a tough conclusion with a 27-7 loss to St. Edward in the Division I, Region 1 championship game. For the Cardinals, it was their first and only loss of the season, capping an otherwise undefeated run at 12-1.
Short-handed and battling injuries to their top three running backs, including their standout Jackson Farley, the Cardinals leaned heavily on senior leader Justen Hodge. Forced into a new role at tailback, Hodge delivered a gutsy performance, rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in six catches for 107 yards.
Despite a fourth-quarter push that brought the Cardinals within a touchdown, St. Edward responded quickly with two unanswered scores ā including a game-sealing interception returned for a touchdown ā to put the game out of reach.
While the scoreboard favored the Eagles, Mentorās grit, adaptability, and teamwork stood out. This senior class leaves behind a legacy not just of wins, but of commitment, unity, and resilience. Though the regional trophy will not be displayed with joy, the journey this team took was worthy of recognition.
As the Cardinals close the chapter on an incredible season, their impact will be felt for years to come ā both on and off the field.
