❄️ Brace for a Wintry Holiday: Snow Squalls and Plunging Temps Hit Region

Cold Front Blasts Northeast Ohio with Wind, Snow Threat for Thanksgiving
A powerful cold front swept through Northeast Ohio this morning, bringing wind gusts near 50 mph and a steep drop in temperatures, falling into the 20s by evening.
While a few stray snow showers may pass through tonight, most of the region will stay mostly dry—initially. The real weather concern builds over Lake Erie later tonight, where a strong band of lake-effect snow is expected to form.
The heaviest snowfall will target areas from Erie, Pennsylvania to Buffalo, New York. However, the southern edge of the band could brush parts of northeastern Ohio, from Bratenahl to Conneaut, bringing light accumulations overnight.
On Thanksgiving Day, shifting winds will push the snow into the Primary and Secondary Snow Belts. Expect heavy snow squalls, low visibility, and possibly thundersnow. Travelers should use caution Thursday and Thursday night, especially in higher-elevation areas.
Snow showers may linger into Friday, keeping road conditions unsettled. Highs Thursday and Friday will stay in the low to mid-30s, with wind chills making it feel much colder.
Residents are urged to bundle up, stay alert, and enjoy a safe and warm Thanksgiving.
🎭 “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical” Brings Heart and Harmony to Willoughby

Anne of Green Gables - The Musical
Classic Tale Comes to Life at Corning Auditorium: “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical” Opens This November
Audiences in Willoughby, Ohio, will soon be transported to the charming village of Avonlea as Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™ takes the stage at Corning Auditorium from November 28 through December 21, 2025.
Based on L.M. Montgomery’s beloved novel, the musical tells the heartwarming story of Anne Shirley, a spirited redhead whose imagination and tenacity win over her adoptive family and the tight-knit rural community that becomes her home. The production captures the timeless themes of belonging, identity, and transformation, all underscored by a richly composed score.
Originally conceived as a television musical that aired on CBC in 1956, this adaptation gained international acclaim following its stage debut at Canada’s Charlottetown Festival. It has since earned a place in musical theatre history as the Longest-Running Annual Musical Theatre Production, according to Guinness World Records. Over the decades, the musical has seen numerous revivals and adaptations, including notable productions in London and New York.
This upcoming performance is presented by the Fine Arts Association and supported by Lake County, Ohio, and the Ohio Arts Council. With its family-friendly “G” rating and universal appeal, Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™ promises a nostalgic and uplifting experience for audiences of all ages.

🛍️ Mentor Marketplace Leads Lake County's Shop Local Movement
Mentor’s Shop Local Momentum for Small Business Saturday - Nov 29th
As Small Business Saturday approaches on November 29, business owners in Mentor and Lake County are encouraging shoppers to keep their dollars local and make a direct impact in their community.
Launched in 2010 by American Express, the event has grown into a national celebration of small businesses. In Lake County, shopping local supports real families, not just retail sales.
One standout is Oliver’s Emporium inside Great Lakes Mall in Mentor. Originally a seasonal pop-up, it has grown into two full-time storefronts with over 60 vendors. Located in the Dillard’s Wing near Santa, the Emporium offers handmade goods like soaps, teas, baked treats, and vintage items — all crafted or sourced locally.
Sharing space and responsibilities helps vendors reduce costs and avoid the grind of weekend craft fairs. Many say this model offers stability and fosters a true sense of community.
The Emporium is also focused on giving back. This season’s Trees of Hope fundraiser features decorated trees with proceeds benefiting Relay for Life. The marketplace is also hosting raffles, a gift drive, and themed events like scavenger hunts for families.
From 15 vendors last year to over 60 now, Oliver’s Emporium is thriving — and so is the shop local movement in Mentor. Ohio’s recent ranking as one of the top states for business reinforces the growing opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Open seven days a week, both locations invite shoppers to support small businesses, find unique gifts, and strengthen Lake County’s economy this holiday season.
Let’s keep more magic right here in Mentor this holiday season. Amazon’s convenient (we get it!), but choosing even one locally owned shop makes a real difference for a neighbor, a family, and our whole community. Start strong on Small Business Saturday and show our small businesses some hometown love. ❤️🛍️

🐶 From Combat to Comfort: Army Dog Reunites with Handler for Retirement Abroad

Retired Military Dog Finds Forever Home After Emotional Reunion
A retired military working dog has found peace and companionship this Thanksgiving, following an emotional reunion with his former handler after over two years apart.
Yyacob, an eight-year-old Belgian Malinois, reunited with U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Payton May in San Antonio, Texas, on November 25. The reunion, coordinated by American Humane, came after a long separation that began in 2022 when May was reassigned to a new base.
The pair served together for nearly two years, including a nine-month deployment to Iraq. Yyacob’s duties included explosive detection and patrol work, often alongside May during vehicle inspections and base security checks.
During their time overseas, they were inseparable—sharing living quarters and forming a strong bond through daily service. Their separation began when May transferred to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, while Yyacob remained at Fort Drum in New York until his recent retirement after seven years of service.
Yyacob had completed the elite Patrol Explosive Detection Dog — Enhanced Course, a rigorous program offered only a few times a year, designed to sharpen off-leash detection and patrol skills.
Upon hearing of Yyacob’s retirement, May contacted American Humane for assistance. The organization arranged and funded Yyacob’s travel to Texas, reuniting the duo in time for the holidays.
Now, Yyacob will accompany May to Italy for his next posting, beginning a well-earned retirement. American Humane has also pledged to provide Yyacob with ongoing veterinary care.
This reunion stands as a touching reminder of the powerful bond between military handlers and their canine partners.

🏈 Cleveland’s Defensive Star Myles Garrett Closing in on Sack Milestone
Myles Garrett Closes In on NFL Sack Record
Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett is on the brink of history. With 18 sacks through 11 games — including 14 in his last five — Garrett is just five sacks away from breaking the NFL’s single-season record of 22.5, shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt.
Garrett’s total exceeds that of several entire teams, including the Panthers, Bengals, and 49ers. Despite Cleveland’s offensive struggles and a likely losing season, Garrett is the clear frontrunner for another Defensive Player of the Year award after winning it in 2023.
His record chase comes after an eventful offseason. Garrett requested a trade in February, only to recommit a month later with a record-breaking $40 million per year extension. Now approaching his 30th birthday in December, he’s delivering a season for the ages.
Elsewhere, the Denver Broncos have recorded 49 sacks and are on pace to challenge the 1984 Bears’ team record of 72.
Garrett’s next opportunity comes Sunday as the Browns host the 49ers. With six games left, he’s well within striking distance of cementing his name in NFL history.
