🚒 Aging Equipment Replaced as Mentor Fire Department Upgrades Radios
The City of Mentor has approved the purchase of 27 new mobile radios for the fire department, awarding the contract to Motorola Solutions, Inc. at a total cost of $179,993. The purchase includes a $30,000 discount through the Ohio Fire Marshal Grant, which offered time-sensitive savings.
The decision, made during the December 2 city council meeting and first reported on December 3 on our website, comes in response to increasing equipment failures. Over the past year, 12 radios—roughly 15% of the department’s communication fleet—have become inoperable and cannot be repaired due to lack of support and replacement parts.
City officials have recognized the need to restore full radio capabilities to ensure effective communication and safeguard firefighters and the public during emergencies. New APX N70 radios will be issued to front-line units, while still-functional existing radios will be reassigned for spare use, special events, and specialty vehicles.

🏡 Struggling with Mortgage Payments? Here’s How to Get Help in 2026
If you're behind—or worried about falling behind—on your mortgage, there are still relief options available in 2026 to help you stay in your home.
Mortgage relief can include loan modifications, forbearance (temporary pause in payments), or refinancing into a lower-rate loan. These are often arranged through your lender and can make payments more manageable.
Mortgage assistance refers to external support, like government grants, interest-free loans, or free housing counseling. Together, these resources help reduce the risk of foreclosure.
One major program to explore is the Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF), created to help with overdue payments, taxes, and utilities. Each state runs its own version—check your state housing agency to see if it’s still active.
Where to start:
Call your lender early—before missing a payment
Contact a HUD-approved housing counselor for free help
Check state and local housing agencies for available grants or relief
Avoid scams—legit programs won’t charge upfront fees or make promises via cold calls

🏈 Browns Fall Short Against Bills, Missed Opportunities Define Loss
Browns Drop Week 16 Battle to Bills: Bright Spots and Costly Mistakes
The Cleveland Browns fell 23-20 to the Buffalo Bills, a close loss that highlighted recurring issues despite some bright spots.
Cleveland’s opening drive impressed with sharp execution, resulting in a touchdown. Running back Quinshon Judkins contributed early before exiting with a serious leg injury. His backup, Raheim Sanders, sparked the third-quarter offense with a strong showing, though he saw limited action afterward.
Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger stood out again with 13 tackles, a sack, and several key stops. Devin Bush had ups and downs but held up in coverage. Notably, the Browns converted 8 of 14 third downs—an improvement over past games.
Still, major breakdowns proved costly. Right tackle KT Leveston allowed multiple sacks and penalties, while left tackle Cam Robinson struggled late. The run defense was gashed early, giving up 133 yards to James Cook before adjusting.
The passing game remained ineffective. Wide receivers combined for just 31 yards and no touchdowns. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders showed grit and mobility but threw two interceptions and rarely went deep, finishing with 157 yards, one touchdown, and a 64.9 rating.
Myles Garrett was limited by double teams, recording just half a sack. Trayveon Williams added a late spark, leading the team in receiving despite limited snaps.
Flashes of potential weren’t enough to overcome execution errors, missed chances, and a stagnant passing game—persistent issues in a disappointing season.
