🌧️ Possible Slick Start Friday as Icy Conditions Turn to Rain

Icy Start Possible Friday Morning Across Northeast Ohio, Rain to Follow

After a quiet Christmas, Northeast Ohio is facing a slick start to the weekend as a round of freezing rain and sleet was expected to move through the area this morning. The wintry mix could create slick conditions, especially during the early commute, especially east of Mentor on into Western Pennsylvania.

Surfaces could become slippery before temperatures begin to rise later in this morning.

By midday Friday, temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid-30s, helping transition the wintry mix into cold rain. Rain will continue into the afternoon, with highs reaching the 40s in most areas. Northern communities may stay cooler, while areas to the south could briefly reach the low 50s.

Looking ahead to Saturday, conditions will dry out, though skies will remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler, with highs in the mid to upper 30s, typical for late December.

🎄Mentor Offers Christmas Tree Recycling at Local Parks

Mentor Opens Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites Through January

Now that the holidays are wrapping up, the City of Mentor is offering residents a convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of their live Christmas trees. Starting immediately, several parks across the city will serve as designated drop-off sites, open through January 31, 2026.

Trees can be taken to any of the following locations:

  • Edward R. Walsh Park – 7221 Bellflower Road

  • Eleanor B. Garfield Park – 7967 Mentor Avenue

  • Donald E. Krueger Park – 7556 Chillicothe Road

  • Morton Park – 9325 Rosemary Lane

Residents are reminded to remove all decorations, tinsel, lights, and plastic bags before dropping off their trees. The collected trees will be recycled into mulch or compost as part of the city’s ongoing environmental efforts.

This annual program offers an easy and responsible way to wrap up the holiday season while supporting local sustainability initiatives.

🏒 Mentor 9-Year-Old Champions Girls in Hockey with New Program

Mentor 9-Year-Old Launches "Slapshot Queens" to Empower Girls in Hockey

At just nine years old, Lillian Baldwin of Mentor is making moves on and off the ice. A dedicated hockey player since the age of three, Lillian currently plays for the Cleveland Lady Barons, Sirens, and Mentor youth teams—but she’s also turning her passion into a platform for change.

Noticing a lack of girls in the sport, Lillian took the initiative to start Slapshot Queens, a grassroots effort aimed at encouraging more girls to play hockey. Her vision is to grow it into a supportive community where young female athletes can find connection, motivation, and inspiration.

Lillian has already begun selling branded shirts to raise awareness and funds for her mission, and she recently kicked off an ambassador program to further spread the word. Her project also includes a focus on teaching leadership and business skills to girls through sports.

As part of her early efforts, Lillian has organized an all-girls team to compete in the upcoming Ohio Hockey Project tournament on December 30, showing that her goals are more than just talk—they’re already taking shape on the ice.

What investment is rudimentary for billionaires but ‘revolutionary’ for 70,571+ investors entering 2026?

Imagine this. You open your phone to an alert. It says, “you spent $236,000,000 more this month than you did last month.”

If you were the top bidder at Sotheby’s fall auctions, it could be reality.

Sounds crazy, right? But when the ultra-wealthy spend staggering amounts on blue-chip art, it’s not just for decoration.

The scarcity of these treasured artworks has helped drive their prices, in exceptional cases, to thin-air heights, without moving in lockstep with other asset classes.

The contemporary and post war segments have even outpaced the S&P 500 overall since 1995.*

Now, over 70,000 people have invested $1.2 billion+ across 500 iconic artworks featuring Banksy, Basquiat, Picasso, and more.

How? You don’t need Medici money to invest in multimillion dollar artworks with Masterworks.

Thousands of members have gotten annualized net returns like 14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8% from 26 sales to date.

🏀 Cavs Crumble Late as Knicks Complete Christmas Comeback

Cavaliers Collapse Late as Knicks Steal Christmas Day Win at the Garden

The Cleveland Cavaliers let a double-digit fourth-quarter lead slip away in heartbreaking fashion, falling 126-124 to the New York Knicks on Christmas Day. Despite leading by as many as 17 in the final period, the Cavs were outscored 40-21 down the stretch, snapping their two-game win streak.

Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 34 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists. He helped set the tone early as the Cavs jumped to an 18-3 lead and held a 38-23 advantage after one quarter. Darius Garland contributed 20 points and 10 assists, while Evan Mobley returned from injury with 14 points and nine boards in his first game back.

After dominating early, Cleveland briefly lost control in the second quarter as the Knicks went on an 18-0 run, turning a 41-29 deficit into a 47-41 lead. The Cavaliers recovered in the third behind a series of explosive plays, including a highlight-reel alley-oop from Garland to Mitchell, building their lead to 103-86 early in the fourth.

But New York’s bench ignited a furious rally. Tyler Kolek had 16 points and nine assists, along with a key late-game block that erased a Mitchell drive after a successful review. Jordan Clarkson scored 25 off the bench, and Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 34, including the go-ahead three-pointer with just over a minute left.

Despite controlling much of the game, the Cavs couldn’t stop the Knicks' momentum late and missed a chance to extend their winning streak. They’ll look to bounce back on Saturday in Houston.
