❄️ Arctic Blast Slams NE Ohio with Snow, Winds, and Frigid Temps
Video Above from wkyc.com in Painesville, Ohio
Arctic Blast Brings Snow, Strong Winds, and Dangerous Cold to Northeast Ohio
A surge of arctic air has swept across Northeast Ohio, delivering heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerously low wind chills. The frigid conditions have led to downed trees, damaged power lines, and blowing snow, making travel and outdoor activity risky.
A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday for Ashtabula Inland, Ashtabula Lakeshore, and Lake Counties. An initial snow band is expected to bring over 2 inches by evening, followed by a more intense burst overnight into Thursday morning, which could add another 8 to 12 inches in some areas. Wind gusts may reach up to 40 mph tonight.
Though temperatures stay in the 20s, wind chills are near zero.
Two additional storm systems are expected before New Year’s Day—one arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday, and another from Wednesday evening into early Thursday—posing potential disruptions to travel and holiday plans.
While the weekend looks drier, temperatures will remain below freezing, maintaining hazardous winter conditions.

Santa Trades Sleigh for Fire Truck in Mentor-on-the-Lake Holiday Tradition
In Mentor-on-the-Lake, Santa Claus makes his annual rounds not by reindeer, but atop a fire truck, continuing a holiday tradition that’s brought festive cheer to local streets for over 40 years.
Each December, the fire department’s “Santa Run” features two trucks — one covering the west side of the city and the other the east — as residents step outside to greet Santa and receive candy canes from firefighter “elves.” The Mentor-on-the-Lake Firefighters Association funds the treats, while department members and their families volunteer to make the event a success.
The 2025 Santa Run was postponed by a week due to severe weather and low temperatures, but turnout remained strong and spirits high once the trucks rolled through. The festive convoy with flashing lights and sirens marked the start of the holiday season for many residents.
The event offers a rare opportunity for the fire department to interact with the community in a relaxed, joyful setting. Families of all ages line up to wave, take photos, and share in the seasonal fun, creating memories that have become part of the city's holiday fabric.
📱 Lake County Officials Urge Caution Amid New Phone Fraud Scheme

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Issues Alert on Warrant Phone Scam
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam where callers impersonate law enforcement and demand money to avoid arrest. Recent reports describe scammers posing as “Captain Bryan Bowen,” claiming targets have active arrest warrants.
Fake court documents are being sent via text to make the claims appear legitimate. Victims are then instructed to pay using bitcoin machines or gift cards to prevent the alleged arrest.
Scammers are also using caller ID spoofing to make it seem the calls come from local government numbers, including the Lake County Clerk of Courts.
This follows similar scams earlier in the year involving fake messages from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles related to traffic violations.
Officials stress that law enforcement agencies will never request payment via phone or text to avoid arrest. Residents receiving such calls should hang up and report the incident to their local law enforcement agency, either by phone or in person.
But what can you actually DO about the proclaimed ‘AI bubble’? Billionaires know an alternative…
Sure, if you held your stocks since the dotcom bubble, you would’ve been up—eventually. But three years after the dot-com bust the S&P 500 was still far down from its peak. So, how else can you invest when almost every market is tied to stocks?
Lo and behold, billionaires have an alternative way to diversify: allocate to a physical asset class that outpaced the S&P by 15% from 1995 to 2025, with almost no correlation to equities. It’s part of a massive global market, long leveraged by the ultra-wealthy (Bezos, Gates, Rockefellers etc).

🏡 What’s Hot in Home Design for 2026: Six DIY Trends to Try
6 DIY Home Design Trends Set to Dominate in 2026
As homeowners continue to prioritize comfort, personalization, and practicality, 2026 is shaping up to be a year where thoughtful, DIY-friendly design reigns. Experts are forecasting a shift away from excessive décor and into more intentional, wellness-focused spaces. These emerging trends highlight a commitment to function, minimalism, and sustainable upgrades—all while embracing cozy aesthetics.
1. Painted Shelving That Pops or Blends
Shelves are no longer just storage—they're design statements. In 2026, more homeowners are updating existing shelves with fresh coats of paint to either make them pop as accent pieces or subtly blend into the background. Whether in bold contrast or matching tones, painted shelving offers a low-cost upgrade that delivers big on visual impact.
2. Spa-Inspired Bathrooms
Bathrooms are evolving into personal sanctuaries. Instead of full-scale renovations, DIYers are transforming their bathrooms with calming colors, natural materials, and spa-like touches. Think bamboo accents, stone finishes, rain-style showerheads, and a minimalist aesthetic that encourages relaxation and tranquility.
3. Elevated Minimalism
Minimalism is being reimagined in 2026—not as stark or cold, but as elevated and warm. The focus is on reducing clutter, selecting high-quality fixtures and finishes, and designing spaces that are both functional and serene. This approach not only emphasizes sustainability but also makes rooms feel timeless and refreshing.

🏀 Allen, Cavaliers Dominate Late to Halt San Antonio’s Momentum
Cavaliers Rally Past Spurs as Allen Leads the Way
Jarrett Allen scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 113-101 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. The Cavaliers overcame a third-quarter deficit and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Cleveland saw seven players score in double figures. Evan Mobley had 16 points, while Darius Garland added 15 points and 11 assists.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 26 points and 14 rebounds, notching his 10th double-double of the season. Despite his performance, San Antonio dropped its second straight game after an eight-game winning streak.
The Cavaliers trailed by eight in the third but surged in the fourth behind back-to-back three-pointers from Jaylen Tyson, taking control with a 10-point lead they wouldn’t give up. De’Andre Hunter contributed 11 points, including a four-point play in the first quarter. Luke Kornet added 10 points off the bench.
Wembanyama thrilled the crowd early with a two-handed dunk off a lob and a deep three to end the first quarter, but Cleveland’s depth proved too much.

🏒 Shaker Heights Rallies Late to Edge Mentor 3-2 in Comeback Win
The Shaker Heights Red Raiders rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Mentor Cardinals 3-2 in a tightly contested ice hockey game on Sunday. Trailing after two periods, Shaker Heights surged in the third to seal the win, fueled by a key power-play goal and sustained offensive pressure.
Special teams proved crucial. Shaker Heights converted one of their two power plays, while Mentor scored once on three chances. The Red Raiders fired 26 shots on goal, with Cardinals goalie CJ Labue stopping 23.
Joe Mackey, Nathan Andree, and Hayden Vallance each notched a point for Mentor. Mackey and Andree accounted for the Cardinals’ two goals, but their efforts weren’t enough to stop the late push from Shaker Heights.
Mentor’s record now stands at 11-7-2, while Shaker Heights improves to 5-8-3. The Cardinals aim to bounce back on Saturday, January 3, when they face Hudson (7-9) at 3:35 p.m.
