💡 FirstEnergy Seeks OK for Longer, More Frequent, Outages

FirstEnergy Wants Approval to Lengthen and Increase Power Outages

FirstEnergy is asking Ohio regulators to relax power reliability standards, letting its utilities—Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co., Ohio Edison, and Toledo Edison—take more time to restore service and allow more outages each year.

The company says outages have worsened since 2019 due to factors like weather and falling trees, and proposes raising CEI’s average outage duration from 135 to 150 minutes. But cities including Cleveland, Lakewood, and Barberton strongly oppose the request.

Lakewood reported 60+ extended outages in one year, many tied to equipment failures or company errors. Vulnerable residents have been trapped in elevators or lost access to medical equipment. Cleveland argues most outages are preventable and criticizes the utility’s $1 billion in upgrades for lacking results.

The Ohio Consumers’ Counsel and others are demanding an independent investigation. A key hearing with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is set for February 26.

🏡 Make It Personal: 2026 Design Tips from the Property Brothers

Property Brothers Urge Homeowners to Embrace Bolder Design in 2026

The Property Brothers are kicking off 2026 with a strong message for homeowners: it's time to ditch the dull and bring back personality. With fresh seasons of Celebrity IOU and Don't Hate Your House with the Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott are encouraging fans to make bolder design choices this year.

Gone are the days of sterile white and endless shades of gray. The brothers are championing unique touches, artisanal craftsmanship, and vintage finds to give homes more texture and character. Rather than opting for cookie-cutter furniture, they recommend incorporating one-of-a-kind pieces—whether discovered during travels or sourced from local antique shops.

For those unsure where to start, the brothers suggest experimenting with statement items like vintage tapestries, unique upholstery, or even unexpected fabrics in everyday spaces. They stress that personal items shouldn't stay boxed away in garages; if it can't be displayed, it may not belong in the home.

For a low-commitment upgrade, they recommend peel-and-stick wallpaper—a fun, flexible option that allows for easy changes and creativity. Whether it's trying out a bold pattern or swapping a single shelf, the key is to start small and build design confidence over time.

With a focus on personalization and creativity, the Property Brothers are hoping to inspire homeowners to break away from generic trends and make their spaces truly their own in 2026.

🏀 Lake Catholic Drops Fourth Straight as Kenston Streak Hits Five

The Lake Catholic boys basketball team’s struggles continued Saturday with a fourth straight loss, falling to Kenston in a lopsided 80-50 defeat. The Cougars dropped to 4-8 as they search for answers midway through the season.

Ethan Burge added 12 points on 50% shooting, along with eight assists and seven rebounds in a strong all-around effort.
