🚨 Tragedy Strikes Painesville Housing Complex in Sunday Night Shooting
A deadly shooting at the Jackson Towers apartment complex in Painesville on Sunday evening left an 18-year-old man dead and two others injured. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m., when multiple gunshots were reported inside the 100-unit building.
The victim, identified as Davieon Talley of Eastlake, was found fatally shot in a stairwell. A Painesville police officer already on-site for a routine foot patrol responded immediately, locating a 22-year-old man with gunshot wounds near the north entrance and providing aid.
A third victim, a 17-year-old male, was discovered wounded inside a vehicle as he tried to flee the area. Both surviving victims were taken to University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center.
The Painesville Police Department is leading a joint investigation with support from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and nearby departments including Mentor and Fairport Harbor. No suspects have been named, and while the motive remains unclear, officials say there is no ongoing threat to residents or the community.

🏡 Affordable Fixes That Make Older Homes Feel New Again
Budget-Friendly Upgrades for Older Homes in Northeast Ohio
Older homes in Mentor and across Northeast Ohio have charm you can’t build new — but they also come with quirks. The good news? You don’t need a huge renovation budget to increase comfort, efficiency, and value.
Start with the obvious wins. Fresh paint on the front door, updated house numbers, and better exterior lighting instantly improve curb appeal. Inside, swapping outdated cabinet hardware, replacing yellowed light fixtures with modern LEDs, and re-caulking kitchens and bathrooms make spaces feel cleaner and more current for very little cost.
Next, focus on energy savings — a major selling point in our cold climate. Add weatherstripping to doors, seal drafty windows, and install a programmable or smart thermostat. If your attic insulation is thin, topping it off is one of the highest-return upgrades you can make.
Now for the upgrades many homeowners overlook.
Air sealing is huge. Sealing gaps around attic hatches, basement rim joists, and where pipes or wires enter the home can dramatically cut drafts. Insulating exposed hot water pipes and adding a water heater blanket (for older tanks) also reduce energy waste.
Moisture control matters here, too. Make sure bathroom fans vent outside (not into the attic), extend downspouts away from the foundation, and consider a sump pump backup. These small improvements protect against costly water damage — something buyers definitely notice.
Smart, modest upgrades like these don’t just make your home more comfortable now — they quietly raise its value for the future.
The Bottom Line
These upgrades are high ROI not because they dramatically raise list price, but because they:
✔ Help your home show better
✔ Reduce buyer objections
✔ Support stronger offers
✔ Prevent costly problems later
In older Mentor-area homes, that combination absolutely protects — and often increases — your real-world sale value.

🏀 Mitchell Drops 45 as Cavs Roll Past Magic for Fourth Straight Win
Donovan Mitchell scored 45 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 114-98 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night, securing their fourth straight victory.
Mitchell shot 15-of-25 from the field, including five three-pointers, and racked up 26 first-half points in just 35 minutes. It was his 25th 30-point game of the season and fifth with at least 40. He previously scored 36 in Saturday’s win at Orlando.
Evan Mobley added 20 points and nine rebounds, helping the Cavaliers match their longest win streak of the season. Now 28-20, Cleveland sits a season-best eight games above .500 and has gone 11-4 since December 29.
Paolo Banchero led the Magic with a season-high 37 points and 10 rebounds, but Orlando dropped its third straight. Desmond Bane added 19 points, most in the first half.
Orlando led 38-27 early in the second quarter before Cleveland rallied. A 12-4 run late in the half gave the Cavs a 61-56 lead at halftime, and they closed the game with an 8-2 burst to seal the win.
