The Emerging Leaders of United Way of Lake County recently recognized four young professionals during its Seventh Annual 4 Under 40 Awards, honoring individuals making a strong impact in the community.
More than 160 people attended the Jan. 29 ceremony at The Everly in Mentor to celebrate the honorees’ leadership, service, and professional achievements.
The 2025 recipients are Ashley Cozzens, community relations director with the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Deepwood; Joel DiMare, director of administrative services with the Lake County Commissioners Office; Zerina Hutchinson, owner of Fit4Mom Lake County; and Brandon Morse, owner and operator of Furniture Warehouse Ohio.

💥 Powerful Winds Rip 80-Mile Crack Through Lake Erie Ice
Powerful winds sweeping across Lake Erie over the weekend tore open a dramatic fracture in the lake’s winter ice cover, creating a crack stretching more than 80 miles. The massive break ran from near Port Burwell in Ontario across the lake to an area west of Cleveland, revealing the force exerted as shifting winds pushed and pulled at the frozen surface. The scale of the rupture was so large it was visible in satellite imagery, underscoring the dynamic and sometimes volatile nature of ice-covered Great Lakes during periods of strong weather activity.

🏠 From HVAC to Roof Repairs: The Best Home Warranties of 2026
7 Best Home Warranty Companies of February 2026
Home warranties remain a popular option for homeowners looking to manage the cost of unexpected repairs. These service contracts help cover repairs or replacements for major household systems and appliances that fail due to normal wear and tear. As of February 2026, several providers stand out for their coverage options, pricing, customer service, and flexibility.
After years of ongoing research and analysis of dozens of providers nationwide, seven companies have emerged as top performers across key categories such as enhanced coverage, affordability, HVAC protection, and optional add-ons. Monthly premiums among these companies typically range from under $30 to about $95, with service fees falling between $60 and $150 per claim. Most providers also require a waiting period of around 30 days before coverage begins.
Best Enhanced Coverage: 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty
2-10 Home Buyers Warranty earns top marks for its broad coverage, particularly for items often excluded by competitors. Its higher-tier plans include protection for specialty kitchen components and plumbing embedded in concrete slabs. Customers can choose from three plans, all of which include appliance discounts on major brands and benefits such as color-matching replacements and service fee guarantees.
Best Premiums: AFC Home Warranty
AFC Home Warranty stands out for its competitive pricing and flexibility. Customers can select their own licensed technicians and choose from four plans, including hybrid options that cover both systems and appliances. One of AFC’s strongest advantages is its lifetime parts and labor guarantee during the contract term, providing long-term value despite some regional limitations.
Best for HVAC: American Home Shield
As the largest home warranty provider in the country, American Home Shield is particularly strong in HVAC coverage. Its premium plan includes HVAC tune-ups, refrigerant coverage, and protection against code violations. With customizable plans and extensive national reach, it remains a popular choice for homeowners prioritizing climate systems.

🏀 Mitchell’s Late Free Throws Lift Cavaliers Past Nuggets in Thriller
Donovan Mitchell delivered in the clutch and James Harden sparked a late comeback as the Cleveland Cavaliers stunned the Denver Nuggets 119-117 on Monday night.
Mitchell poured in 32 points and sealed the win with two free throws in the final second after Harden drilled a game-tying three-pointer moments earlier. Harden, playing just his second game since joining Cleveland in an early February trade, finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Cavaliers erased a double-digit deficit down the stretch.
Denver appeared in control after pushing its lead to 11 points late in the fourth quarter, but Cleveland responded with a surge led by Harden’s shot-making and Mitchell’s playmaking. Jarrett Allen’s alley-oop dunk off a Mitchell lob pulled the Cavaliers within one, setting up a tense finish.
Nikola Jokic recorded a 22-point, 14-rebound, 11-assist performance for Denver, marking his 183rd career triple-double. However, his potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark. Jamal Murray added 17 points and 11 assists, but the Nuggets could not stop Cleveland’s late momentum.
Mitchell also dished out 10 assists, while Allen posted 22 points and 13 rebounds. The victory marked Cleveland’s eighth win in its last nine games, while Denver dropped its fourth game in the past five. The Cavaliers return home next to host Washington.
