🌬️ Wild Weather Ahead: High Winds, Lake-Effect Snow and Arctic Cold
Monday Morning
Gusty winds continued overnight with gusts over 50 mph. A line of showers and storms tied to a cold front moved through between 3–6 a.m., with the potential for isolated wind gusts over 60 mph.
Monday Daytime
After the front passes around sunrise, temperatures will fall rapidly from the 50s to the low 30s by evening. Strong westerly winds (40–50 mph gusts) will continue through the day. Rain chances remain around 70%.
Monday Evening
Colder air arriving behind the front will allow lake-effect snow showers to develop. Wind chills will drop well below freezing. Little to no accumulation is expected in Mentor, but travel may become slick after dark.
Tuesday
Lake-effect snow showers continue. Highs will struggle to reach the mid-20s (around 26°F) with wind chills in the teens. Overnight lows fall near 20°F, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. Light snow accumulation is possible in the snow belt, including Mentor.
📰 Lane Closures Start as Route 44 Bridge Project Gets Underway in Mentor
The bridge replacement project at the interchange of state Routes 44 and 283 in Mentor has begun, with daily lane closures underway as crews prepare for construction.
The Ohio Department of Transportation has started preliminary work that includes lane restrictions on both roadways.
During Phase 1, the southbound exit ramp from Route 44 to Lakeshore Boulevard will close, and left-turn access from Lakeshore Boulevard to the northbound Route 44 entrance ramp will be restricted.
Two-way traffic will be maintained across the bridge throughout construction, with one eastbound and one westbound lane open. The Route 44 southbound entrance ramp and northbound exit ramp will remain open.
Ramp closures are expected to begin the first week of April, with detours posted in advance. Officials say the timeline for Phase 1 should be finalized within two weeks.
Because the affected ramps carry the lowest daily traffic volumes at the interchange, officials expect minimal impact. “No Through Traffic” signs will also be placed on Highland Way to discourage neighborhood cut-through traffic.

City of Mentor to Equip Police Cruisers with New Rugged Tablets
The City of Mentor is moving forward with plans to upgrade its police fleet with 28 new Getac F120 fully rugged tablets, enhancing the technological capabilities of its officers in the field.
The Getac F120 is an 11.6-inch Windows-based tablet built to withstand the demanding conditions of law enforcement work. Each unit will be paired with a four-year extended warranty, ensuring long-term reliability for the department.
The purchase also includes three keyboard docks and ten spare storage units, rounding out a comprehensive technology package for the Mentor Police Department.
The upgrade is intended to give officers more modern tools for patrol work. The tablets will be delivered to the city’s IT Department at the Mentor Municipal Center after the purchasing process is finalized.

🏠 Planning a Renovation? Here Are the Best Loan Options Available in 2026

Homeowners planning renovation projects in 2026 have several financing options, with the best choice depending on home equity, credit score, and how quickly funds are needed.
Loans backed by home equity often offer lower interest rates because the property serves as collateral, while unsecured loans may provide faster access to cash.
A home equity loan provides a fixed-rate lump sum based on the equity in a home, typically used for larger projects with predictable costs. A home equity line of credit (HELOC) works more like a credit line, allowing homeowners to withdraw funds as needed — useful for projects completed in stages.
Another option is a cash-out refinance, which replaces an existing mortgage with a larger loan and provides the difference in cash for renovations or other expenses.
Homebuyers purchasing fixer-upper properties may consider the FHA 203(k) rehabilitation loan, which combines the home purchase and renovation costs into a single mortgage and often allows lower down payments.
For homeowners without significant equity, personal loans can provide fast funding, while credit cards may help cover smaller repairs, though typically with higher interest rates.
Financial experts recommend comparing loan types, interest rates, and repayment terms before choosing a financing option.

🏀 Dallas Responds After Blowout Loss, Tops Cleveland in High-Scoring Rematch
The Dallas Mavericks bounced back from a lopsided loss with a 130–120 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday in Cleveland.
Dallas, which had been beaten by 33 points by Cleveland two days earlier, used a strong second half to snap a seven-game losing streak against the Cavaliers. The Mavericks also capitalized on Cleveland’s defensive effort, turning turnovers and open looks into points.
Rookie Cooper Flagg led Dallas with 27 points, adding 10 assists and six rebounds in 33 minutes. The top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft shot 10-of-17 from the field and recorded his 12th game this season with at least 27 points.
Cleveland was led by Donovan Mitchell with 26 points, while Max Strus scored 24 in his season debut after missing the first 67 games following foot surgery.
The teams traded leads in the first half before Dallas took a 60–59 halftime lead. The Mavericks pulled away in the third quarter, building a lead of more than 20 points before Cleveland made a late push.
