🕊️ Ohio National Guard Honors Three Airmen Lost in Plane Crash

The Ohio National Guard is organizing memorial services to honor three airmen who died in a recent plane crash: Capt. Seth Koval, Capt. Curtis Angst, and Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons. The service members were supporting Operation Epic Fury at the time of the incident and were recognized for their dedication and professionalism.

Plans for public memorials are still being finalized as the Guard prioritizes support for the families and works to ensure the airmen’s service is properly honored.

The loss has deeply affected the Mansfield-based 179th Cyberspace Wing and the broader military community. The incident underscores the risks service members face, even during non-combat operations.

Additional information about memorial services and opportunities for community support is expected in the coming days.

🏘️ Housing Market Shift: What It Means for Mentor Buyers in 2026

Real Estate Update: What Northeast Ohio Buyers & Sellers Should Know Right Now

The U.S. housing market in 2026 is entering a “slow reset”—and that’s especially important for buyers and homeowners here in Northeast Ohio.

Mortgage rates are currently hovering around the low-to-mid 6% range, which is lower than last year but still high enough to keep many sellers on the sidelines. (Reuters) This ongoing “lock-in effect” means fewer homes are hitting the market, keeping inventory tight—even as demand cools slightly. (New York Post)

For buyers in Mentor and surrounding areas, this creates a mixed opportunity. Prices are still rising, but at a much slower pace—roughly 1–3% nationally—giving buyers more time to shop and negotiate compared to the frenzy of previous years. (Reuters above)

Closer to home, Ohio remains relatively affordable. The average home value is around $234,000, with modest growth continuing into 2026. (Zillow) Even better, inventory is slowly improving, meaning more options could become available as the year progresses. (First Ohio Home Finance)

However, one major trend to watch is rising “hidden costs.” Insurance, property taxes, and maintenance expenses are climbing fast and now make up a larger portion of monthly housing costs than ever before. (Business Insider)

For renters, there’s a bit of relief. Nearby Cleveland has seen rents dip slightly and remain below the national average, offering a more affordable alternative for those priced out of buying. (Axios)

👉 Bottom line for Mentor residents:
This is no longer a wild seller’s market—but it’s not a buyer’s market either. If you’re buying, patience and negotiation are finally back. If you’re selling, pricing your home correctly is more important than ever.

⚾ MLB Investigation Leaves Guardians Without Two Key Pitchers—and Their Salaries

The Cleveland Guardians have halted salary payments to pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz as Major League Baseball continues its investigation into alleged pitch-rigging tied to gambling. Both players are also facing upcoming legal proceedings after being indicted, leaving their futures uncertain.

Under MLB rules, teams can withhold pay when players are placed on administrative leave or restricted lists during serious investigations or criminal cases. The move gives the Guardians short-term financial flexibility as they deal with the absence of two key pitchers.

Clase, one of the league’s top closers, and Ortiz had been central to Cleveland’s bullpen. Their absence has forced the organization to reassess its pitching depth and make adjustments ahead of the season.

As the investigation continues and the court case approaches, uncertainty still surrounds the situation. For now, the Guardians are evaluating how to reallocate resources and strengthen their roster in a competitive division.
