Weight Gain Linked to Habit Amid Sleep Apnea & Ozempic Boom

Sleep specialists say people with obstructive sleep apnea often face another hidden challenge: stubborn weight gain.

Poor sleep disrupts leptin and ghrelin — the hormones that control hunger and fullness — making cravings stronger and weight harder to manage.

That connection may help explain why treatments like semaglutide are gaining attention for supporting meaningful weight loss.

Read the report on how sleep disruption may influence weight and metabolism.

📰 City of Mentor’s New Fire Station #3 Moving Forward

Mentor’s new Fire Station 3 is moving ahead, shifting from design to construction preparation. The 21,116-square-foot facility will rise at 8091 Plaza Boulevard, at the corner of Plaza Boulevard and Johnnycake Ridge Road.

The station will be built near the former Sears site at Great Lakes Mall, now being demolished, replacing older structures with a modern, single-story emergency response hub designed by App Architecture.

A key feature is a new training tower, allowing local firefighters to conduct specialized drills in the city instead of traveling elsewhere.

The city is selecting a construction team through a bidding process that remains on schedule. A mandatory contractor meeting is set for April 16, 2026, at City Hall, with final bids due by May 15. Bidders must have experience with large-scale projects, particularly recent fire stations, and meet Ohio’s prevailing wage requirements.

Once complete, Fire Station 3 will serve as a modern base for first responders in a busy area, providing the space and tools needed to support the Mentor community for years to come.

🤝 Mentor Leaders Head to U.K. to Attract Jobs and Global Investment

Mentor officials will be traveling to the United Kingdom for meetings on April 23 aimed at fostering long-term economic ties with Coventry and Warwickshire. This strategic mission focuses on showcasing Mentor as a premier destination for UK investors and exporters looking to establish a footprint in the United States. Local leaders view this outreach as the beginning of a fruitful partnership that will create direct pipelines for international business exchange.

By engaging directly with officials in the West Midlands, the delegation intends to highlight the specific industrial and commercial advantages Mentor offers. This initiative moves beyond simple networking, aiming to secure concrete commitments for future trade and investment. For residents, these international missions represent a proactive approach to economic stability and job creation through diversified foreign investment.

The city’s participation underscores its role as a regional leader in economic development. As these relationships formalize, local businesses may see new opportunities for export, while the community benefits from the arrival of global firms. This trip marks a significant step in positioning Mentor as a globally connected hub for innovation and industry. Residents can expect further updates as these international discussions transition into local economic results.

📊 Mortgage Rates Dip Slightly as Markets Steady and Oil Prices Fall

Mortgage rates edged lower, offering modest relief to borrowers as markets showed signs of stabilization. The 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.317%, while the average 30-year mortgage rate hovered near 6.37%, creating a slightly more favorable borrowing environment.

A sharp drop in oil prices helped ease inflation concerns, reducing pressure tied to energy costs and contributing to calmer market conditions.

Markets reflected a mixed but steadier tone. The Dow and S&P 500 posted small declines, while the Nasdaq saw a slight gain. Investor sentiment improved but remained cautious, signaling ongoing uncertainty.

The Federal Reserve continues to influence the outlook. Some policymakers are still considering additional rate hikes this year, and upcoming economic data could shift expectations, making the current dip in rates potentially short-lived.

For now, borrowers may find a window to lock in rates, though major declines appear unlikely without clearer signs of cooling inflation. Mortgage rates are expected to remain in the low-to-mid 6% range in the near term.
