A Teaspoon On An Empty Stomach May Remove 12Lbs Of Fat Per Week
Taken on an empty stomach, this small teaspoon habit is getting attention for how it may influence appetite signals before the first meal of the day. The idea is simple: trigger fullness sooner, reduce cravings later, and help the body use stored fat for energy instead of storing more around the waist.

🚨 Barricade Situation Near Fairport High School Ends Safely
Residents traveling near our neighbors in Fairport Harbor on Wednesday morning likely encountered a heavy police presence following a barricade situation that briefly affected local school operations. An unidentified armed man was taken into custody after a two-hour standoff with law enforcement in a residential area near Fairport Harding High School.
The incident began early Wednesday when Fairport Harbor Police discovered a distraught man barricaded inside a vehicle. Because the individual was reportedly armed, officers established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the SWAT team. As a precautionary measure, the high school was placed on lockdown at 9:00 a.m. to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Fortunately, the situation reached a peaceful resolution. Following negotiations with the SWAT team, the suspect surrendered shortly before 11:00 a.m. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. The lockdown was lifted immediately following the arrest, and school activities returned to their normal schedule.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for a psychological evaluation, and charges are currently pending. While our Mentor community remained unaffected, we are grateful for the swift coordination between regional law enforcement agencies to keep Lake County students safe. Traffic in the area of Vine and Third Streets has since returned to normal.

📈 New County Economic Development Office Aims to Boost Local Growth
Lake County is officially putting a greater focus on local business growth. The Lake County Commissioners recently approved the creation of a dedicated Economic Development Office, a move designed to centralize resources and expand financing options for businesses throughout the region, including right here in Mentor.
For years, many economic development duties were handled through various departments or external partnerships. By establishing this formal office, the county aims to be more proactive in attracting new industries and helping existing companies expand. One of the primary goals is to provide better access to state and federal grants, as well as low-interest loan programs that can be vital for small business owners and large-scale developers alike.
For Mentor residents, this development is a positive sign for the local tax base and job market. As the county increases its capacity to negotiate deals and streamline the permitting process, we may see more vacant storefronts filled and more high-tech manufacturing opportunities entering our area.
The new office will work in tandem with the Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority. By narrowing the focus on infrastructure and financial incentives, officials hope to ensure Lake County remains a competitive hub in Northeast Ohio. We will keep you updated as specific new programs and funding opportunities are announced for our local business community.

🐶 The Real Reason Your Dog Is Acting Out (It’s Not What You Think)

If your dog is chewing furniture, barking nonstop, or acting restless, the issue may not be “bad behavior” at all. It’s often boredom—and it shows up faster than most owners realize.
In a place like Mentor, where long winters and inconsistent spring weather limit outdoor time, dogs can fall into low-stimulation routines. The result isn’t just pent-up energy—it’s a lack of mental engagement. And mental fatigue, not physical exhaustion, is what truly calms a dog.
A 20-minute walk where your dog is allowed to sniff, pause, and explore is often more effective than a brisk, no-stopping mile. Sniffing activates a dog’s brain in ways that structured exercise doesn’t. Think of it as “reading the news” for your dog—each scent is information.
Another overlooked issue is predictability. Dogs that experience the same routine every day—same walk, same time, same path—can become under-stimulated even if they’re getting exercise. Changing routes, introducing short training sessions, or rotating toys every few days can reset their engagement.
Chewing is also frequently misunderstood. It’s not just a teething or destructive habit—it’s a stress release. Dogs left alone for long stretches without a task will create their own. Structured chew time using safe, durable items can reduce anxiety and prevent damage.
Here’s a lesser-known insight: background noise matters. A completely silent home can actually increase alertness and anxiety in some dogs. Low-level sound—like a fan, soft music, or a TV—can create a more relaxed baseline environment when you’re away.
For Mentor pet owners, the takeaway is simple: a well-behaved dog isn’t just exercised—it’s mentally engaged. Small changes in how you walk, play, and structure the day can dramatically reduce problem behaviors before they start.

⚾ Cardinals Top Guardians 5-3 Behind Church’s Three-Hit Game
The St. Louis Cardinals earned a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, backed by timely hitting and effective pitching. Nathan Church collected three hits, Alec Burleson drove in two runs, and Jordan Walker extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Dustin May held Cleveland to one run over six innings with four strikeouts, while Riley O’Brien secured the save with a perfect ninth. Cleveland starter Slade Cecconi allowed just one run but struggled with control, issuing five walks as the Guardians dropped their second straight game.
St. Louis took control in the sixth inning when JJ Wetherholt delivered a sacrifice fly and Burleson followed with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Cleveland answered with a two-run double from Bo Naylor in the seventh, but Church responded with an RBI double to restore a two-run lead.
José Ramírez briefly went down after fouling a pitch off his shin but remained in the game. He also set a franchise record for career at-bats earlier in the contest. Walker added a double in the eighth to continue his hitting streak and help seal the win.
