🎶 Tunes at the Lagoons Returns to Mentor with Summer 2026 Lineup

Summer evenings in Mentor are set to come alive once again as the Tunes at the Lagoons concert series returns for its fifth season at the Mentor Lagoons Marina. The 2026 lineup begins on June 12 and continues through August, offering a mix of well-known local bands and tribute performances that promise to draw music lovers from across the region.

The season opens with Monica Robins and Ninja Cowboys, followed by Treble in CLE later in June. July brings performances from Abbey Rodeo and a Tom Petty tribute band, Shadow of Doubt. In August, audiences can look forward to a U2 tribute act, One, and a late-summer show by Pieces of Eight.

Concertgoers can make an evening of it with food trucks and a variety of drink options available throughout the series. Beverage stations will serve beer and sparkling drinks, with multiple payment methods accepted, including digital wallets and credit cards. Food and drink service begins at 6 p.m., giving attendees time to settle in before the music starts.

Each concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and takes place in a field-seating setup, so guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Parking is free, with attendants available to assist, and accessible spaces are provided.

Supported by a wide range of sponsors, the concert series continues to be a staple summer attraction in Mentor. The venue is located at 8365 Harbor Drive, offering a scenic lakeside backdrop for the performances.

Participants are encouraged to submit short videos sharing personal reflections on what America means to them, highlighting themes such as freedom, opportunity, and community.

Videos should be 30 to 90 seconds long and follow basic recording guidelines, including horizontal format and clear audio. Submissions are due by June 15, 2026, with optional in-person recording sessions available at the Mentor Municipal Center in May.

Selected entries will be featured during Mentor’s Independence Day celebration and across city media platforms throughout July.

For complete details, submission guidelines, and participation information, visit the official project page.

📰 Smokey Bones Abruptly Ends Operations Across U.S.

Smokey Bones, a national barbecue chain known for its ribs and steaks, has closed all remaining U.S. locations this week, ending a 27-year run. The shutdown came abruptly, with employees at multiple sites learning of the closures on short notice and signs posted thanking customers for their support.

Parent company FAT Brands confirmed that operations had ceased but offered few details. A statement on the company’s website reflected on the brand’s history and connection with customers over the years.

The closures follow financial challenges involving Twin Hospitality Group, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. Once operating nearly 130 locations, the chain had dwindled to about 20 across several states before shutting down completely.

The Mentor location is among those now permanently closed, marking the chain’s exit from the local area.

⚾ Lake County Bounces Back After Game One Loss to Earn Split

The Lake County Captains split a doubleheader with the Beloit Sky Carp, falling 9-4 in the opener before bouncing back with a 5-2 win to move to 11-12 on the season.

In Game 1, both teams came out aggressive in the first inning, but Beloit quickly took control. A solo home run from Brandon Compton sparked the Sky Carp early, while Lake County stayed close thanks to a run-scoring double from Bennett Thompson.

The decisive moment came in the fourth inning when Juan Matheus launched a grand slam to right field, breaking the game open. Lake County’s pitching staff struggled throughout, allowing nine runs, and the early offensive push wasn’t enough to recover.

Game 2 followed a different script. Beloit struck first again, with Cody Schrier delivering a solo home run in the third inning. This time, however, Lake County responded immediately.

The Captains surged for four runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a go-ahead three-run home run from Ryan Cesarini that shifted momentum for good. An added run in the fifth provided insurance.

Lake County’s bullpen held firm, with Cam Schuelke earning the win and Luis Flores closing it out with two scoreless innings to secure the save.

🥎 Mentor Explodes for 15 Hits in 10-8 Win Over Brunswick

The Mentor Lady Cardinals responded to a recent loss with a strong offensive showing, defeating the Brunswick Blue Devils 10-8 in a conference matchup. The victory pushed Mentor’s record to 12-7 overall and kept them unbeaten in conference play at 6-0.

Mentor’s lineup powered the win with 15 hits. Gabi Dadante led the way with three hits and an RBI, while Ireland Rainey added a triple and reached base multiple times. Aubree Colon, Payton Willis, and Kathryn Bouffard each contributed two hits to the balanced attack.

The biggest offensive moment came during Mentor’s six-run fifth inning, where the Cardinals broke open a tight game and created the separation they needed to hold on late.

In the circle, Syd Cahill went the distance to earn the win. Despite allowing eight runs on eight hits and issuing 11 walks, she recorded 11 strikeouts and worked through constant pressure to secure the victory.

Mentor will look to carry that momentum into its next game on the road against Lorain on May 4.
