The Early Bird Mentor Farmers Market will kick off the 2026 season on Friday, May 15, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Eleanor B. Garfield Park.
The event will bring together local vendors offering fresh produce, gourmet foods and a variety of handmade goods. Visitors can expect a lively community atmosphere, with artisans showcasing unique crafts and artwork alongside a wide selection of culinary options.
The market is open to the public and serves as an early preview of the upcoming farmers market season, giving attendees a chance to explore local flavors and shop for one-of-a-kind items.
🍜 Great Lakes Mall Expands Dining with New Flavors, Bigger Spaces
Dining options at Great Lakes Mall are expanding, bringing a mix of local favorites and international flavors to shoppers.
A key addition is the larger location for Del Monti’s Italian Treats, a family-owned business that first opened at the mall three years ago. Now in an expanded space, the shop continues to offer a variety of Italian specialties, including house-made gelato, pizzelles, chocolates, subs and pizzas, along with fresh grocery items prepared on-site. The growth marks an important step for the business as it builds on its reputation as a popular stop for both quick snacks and full meals.
The mall has also introduced EA-teriyaki Japanese Grill in its food court. The quick-service restaurant features made-to-order teriyaki dishes, providing a fast and fresh dining option for visitors.
These updates are part of a broader effort to enhance the mall’s dining lineup, combining locally owned establishments with diverse, globally inspired cuisine.
📰 From Food Bank to Industrial Park, Mentor Approves Developments
The Mentor Planning Commission’s April 30, 2026 meeting approved several projects that highlight continued business growth and community investment across the city.
At 7224 Center Street, a conditional use permit transfer allows a restaurant to continue outdoor dining with minor seating adjustments, supporting local business stability without new hour restrictions.
At 9281 Pine Needle Drive and 9312 Pine Cone Drive, a manufacturing facility gained approval for a cold-storage addition to manage excess pallets and materials. Commissioners allowed a reduced masonry requirement, balancing cost with durability while supporting industrial operations.
Plans at 7201 Buridge Avenue will replace outdated storage with a new climate-controlled food bank building on church property. The upgrade improves food safety, capacity, and volunteer conditions, reinforcing local support services.
A preliminary plan for an industrial park at 7165 Industrial Park Boulevard—featuring six multi-tenant buildings—also moved forward. Commissioners called for refinements to design, masonry use, and parking to ensure long-term quality development.
These decisions reflect Mentor’s focus on balancing economic development with community needs.

🍽️ Dinner Rescue: What’s for Dinner Tonight?
If your weeknight dinners are starting to feel a little too predictable, tonight’s “Dinner Rescue” is all about shaking things up—without making things harder. These two recipes bring bold flavor, simple prep, and just enough variety to keep your family interested (and coming back for seconds).
🍤 Cajun Shrimp & Sausage Skillet
This is the kind of meal that feels like you picked it up from a great local restaurant—but it comes together right in your own kitchen in about 30 minutes. The combination of smoky sausage, tender shrimp, and seasoned peppers delivers big, satisfying flavor without a long ingredient list. It’s a perfect choice for a busy night when you want something hearty and different from the usual chicken routine.
🥪 Chicken Pesto Mozzarella Flatbread
If your family loves pizza night, this is a fresh twist that’s quicker and a bit more flavorful. Using flatbread as the base keeps things simple, while pesto, juicy chicken, and melted mozzarella create a rich, savory bite that feels special—but not complicated. It’s an easy win for both kids and adults, and perfect for nights when time is tight but expectations are high.
Both of these meals are fast, budget-friendly, and just different enough to break the dinner rut—exactly what a good Dinner Rescue should do. 😄

⚾ Hoskins, DeLauter Lead Guardians Past Athletics 8-5
Rhys Hoskins led the Cleveland Guardians to an 8-5 win over the Athletics on Friday night, driving in three runs and hitting a home run, while Chase DeLauter went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
Oakland struck first on a two-run homer by Brent Rooker, but Cleveland answered with a two-run double from DeLauter in the second. The Guardians pulled even again in the fifth on Hoskins’ two-run double.
Cleveland took the lead for good in the seventh with a sacrifice fly, followed by Hoskins’ solo homer to make it 6-4, and later extended the lead to 8-4.
The Athletics threatened in the eighth after loading the bases, aided by Nick Kurtz extending his streak of reaching base and drawing walks, but Cleveland’s bullpen limited the damage and secured the win.
Joey Cantillo allowed four runs over four innings, and Cade Smith earned the save. Oakland starter J.T. Ginn allowed five runs and struggled with control.
The win continues Cleveland’s dominance over Oakland, with 22 victories in their last 27 meetings.

RJ Barrett hit a three-pointer with just over a second left in overtime to give the Toronto Raptors a 112-110 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, forcing a Game 7.
Cleveland’s final chance fell short as Evan Mobley missed a three at the buzzer.
Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 25 points and 14 assists, while Barrett and Ja’Kobe Walter each scored 24 and Collin Murray-Boyles added 17. The Raptors recovered after blowing an 11-point fourth-quarter lead.
Mobley had 26 points and 14 rebounds for Cleveland, and Donovan Mitchell scored 24. James Harden added 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists but struggled with efficiency. Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade contributed 14 and 10 points.

The Raptors turned 18 turnovers into 25 points and held a 20-6 fast-break edge. Barnes set the tone early with 14 points and 10 assists by halftime. Brandon Ingram remained out with a sore heel, and his status is uncertain.
