🏭 Steris Commits $60 Million To New Mentor Manufacturing Hub
MENTOR, Ohio — Steris is investing about $60 million in Mentor, Ohio, to build a new sterility assurance manufacturing facility that will consolidate the company’s U.S. production operations into one site. The healthcare and life-sciences company expects the plant to begin operating by the end of 2027.
The project is part of Steris’ broader fiscal 2027 capital spending plan, which includes roughly $375 million in expenditures. The company says the Mentor facility will serve as a modern “center of excellence” designed to streamline manufacturing and improve service for healthcare and scientific customers nationwide.
Steris already maintains manufacturing and administrative operations in Northeast Ohio, making the Mentor expansion a consolidation effort rather than entry into a new market. Executives said during a recent earnings presentation that centralizing production under one roof is intended to improve efficiency and customer support.
The Mentor project comes as Steris also launches a new $1 billion share repurchase program. The company has not yet released details on staffing, construction phases, permitting schedules, or potential local incentives tied to the development.

🗽 Mentor Honors Revolutionary War Veteran Ebenezer Wilson On America250
MENTOR, Ohio — The City of Mentor is recognizing Revolutionary War veteran Ebenezer Wilson as part of the nationwide America250 celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
Mentor City Council officially declared May 16, 2026, as “Ebenezer Wilson Day” to honor Wilson’s military service and his role in the early development of the community.
Born in Swansea, Massachusetts Bay Colony, on May 16, 1745, Wilson later enlisted during the Revolutionary War, serving in Rhode Island in Capt. Robert Crossman’s company under Col. George Williams’ regiment beginning in December 1776.
After living in New York for several years, Wilson moved to Mentor in 1812 after purchasing a large tract of land. Local history also connects his family to one of America’s most recognizable symbols, with legend claiming his son Samuel Wilson inspired the popular “Uncle Sam” nickname during the War of 1812.
Wilson died in 1829 and is buried at Mentor Municipal Cemetery. City leaders said the recognition honors both his military service and his contributions to the foundation of the Mentor community.

An Outdoor Adventure Hotspot + A Surprisingly Affordable Beach Town
Last week, we promised an outdoor adventure destination and a beach town that’s gaining attention from budget-conscious Ohio families. This week’s Travel Sunday feature highlights two spots that offer very different experiences—but both are becoming increasingly popular with Northeast Ohio travelers looking to stretch their summer dollars a little further.
🥾 Moab
For families craving adventure, Moab has become one of the hottest outdoor travel destinations in the country. Located in eastern Utah near the Colorado border, this desert town is known for its dramatic red rock landscapes, endless hiking trails, and unforgettable national park scenery.
Moab serves as the gateway to both Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, giving visitors access to some of the most breathtaking views in America. Families can explore scenic drives, go rafting on the Colorado River, take guided Jeep tours, or enjoy some of the clearest night skies in the country for stargazing.
Why Ohio families love it: Big adventure, stunning scenery, national parks, and a totally different experience from the Midwest.
🏖️ Virginia Beach
While some East Coast beach towns continue getting more expensive, Virginia Beach remains one of the better overall values for family travel. It combines beaches, boardwalk fun, restaurants, and attractions without some of the sticker shock seen in other coastal destinations.
Families enjoy the wide beaches, live entertainment, bike rentals, dolphin tours, and family-friendly atmosphere. Many Northeast Ohio travelers are discovering they can still find reasonable hotel prices here—especially compared to more crowded resort destinations farther south.
Why Ohio families love it: More affordable beach options, family-friendly atmosphere, and easy vacation planning.
💡 Travel Tip of the Week
If you’re planning a national park trip this summer, check reservation requirements before you go. Some parks now require timed-entry reservations during peak travel periods.
🌞 Coming Next Sunday
We’ll feature two more destinations Americans are suddenly searching for in huge numbers—including one fast-growing Gulf Coast beach escape and one charming historic coastal getaway that’s becoming increasingly popular with Northeast Ohio travelers looking for a different kind of summer vacation.
