🚛 Mentor Opens Competitive Bid Process for Heavy-Duty Truck Equipment

MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor Fleet Upgrade Supports Winter Roads and City Services

The City of Mentor is planning to add a new dump truck body to its public works fleet as part of ongoing equipment upgrades.

The city recently opened the rebid process for a 2026 dump truck body compatible with a Western Star 47X chassis, with proposals due May 29.

Dump trucks are essential for snow removal, road salt distribution, pothole repairs, and other infrastructure work throughout the year.

For residents, dependable equipment can lead to faster snow clearing, quicker street repairs, and more reliable city services during severe weather.

🏠 The Home Upgrades That Really Matter in Today’s Market

If you’ve spent any time watching home renovation shows, you’d think every buyer in America expects a luxury kitchen, spa bathroom, and magazine-worthy backyard before they’ll even consider making an offer.

But in today’s Mentor, Ohio housing market, many buyers are becoming far more practical.

With higher monthly payments and tighter budgets, local buyers are paying closer attention to something that often matters more than flashy upgrades:

—- whether a home feels well cared for.

That doesn’t mean updates don’t matter—they absolutely do. But many Northeast Ohio buyers are prioritizing smart, functional improvements over expensive “showpiece” renovations.

For example, homes with:

  • newer roofs,

  • updated furnaces or air conditioning,

  • energy-efficient windows,

  • and clean, neutral interiors

often create stronger buyer confidence than homes with trendy finishes but aging mechanical systems.

Curb appeal still matters too. In Mentor neighborhoods, simple improvements like fresh mulch, trimmed landscaping, pressure washing, and updated exterior lighting can dramatically improve first impressions without costing thousands.

One thing many local buyers are also watching closely right now is deferred maintenance. Small signs of neglect—stained ceilings, damaged gutters, cracked concrete, or worn carpeting—can make buyers wonder what larger problems may be hiding underneath.

Interestingly, many buyers today are actually willing to handle cosmetic projects themselves if the home has “good bones” and major systems have already been updated.

The takeaway for homeowners thinking about selling?
You don’t necessarily need a massive renovation budget.

In today’s market, practical upgrades, maintenance, cleanliness, and overall condition often matter more than trying to make your home look like a luxury HGTV reveal.

🏀 Cavaliers Crush Detroit, Advance to Eastern Conference Finals

The Cleveland Cavaliers advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2018 with a dominant 125-94 victory over the Detroit Pistons in Game 7 on Sunday night.

Cleveland controlled the game from the opening quarter, using strong defense and transition scoring to overwhelm the top-seeded Pistons. The Cavaliers held Detroit to 35.3% shooting and outscored them 58-34 in the paint while building a lead that reached 35 points in the second half.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 26 points, including 15 in the third quarter to stop any hopes of a Detroit comeback. Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill each added 23 points, while Evan Mobley recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cavaliers took command early and never allowed Detroit to gain momentum, capping the series with one of their strongest performances of the postseason.

The win sends Cleveland to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in eight years as the Cavaliers continue their pursuit of an NBA championship.

⚾ Guardians Crush Six Homers in 10-3 Rout of Reds

Kyle Manzardo homered twice and the Cleveland Guardians blasted a season-high six home runs Sunday in a 10-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Progressive Field.

Chase DeLauter, Angel Martinez, José Ramírez and Brayan Rocchio also went deep as Cleveland secured the three-game Ohio Cup series. The Guardians last hit six home runs at home in 2013 and became the third MLB team to reach that mark this season.

Manzardo launched a two-run homer in the third inning before adding a solo shot in the fifth. DeLauter gave Cleveland an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning, while Martinez added his team-leading ninth homer in the seventh. Ramírez capped the power display with his first homer since April 19.

Top prospect Travis Bazzana contributed three hits for Cleveland, which backed starter Gavin Williams. Williams improved to 6-3 after striking out seven over six innings.
