📰 Mentor Residents Demand Answers Over Lingering Odor Problem

MENTOR, Ohio — Residents in one Mentor neighborhood are continuing to demand answers over a lingering odor problem that city officials admit still has not been resolved after more than a year of complaints.

During Tuesday night’s Mentor City Council meeting, council members discussed ongoing frustrations from residents who say unpleasant smells continue to impact their neighborhood despite investigations involving utility officials, county agencies, and the Ohio EPA.

Councilman Krueger said residents are increasingly frustrated with the lack of clear answers and believe progress has stalled.

“It’s over a year and the residents down there are still getting the smell,” Krueger said during the meeting.

Officials indicated there are still questions surrounding the exact source of the odor. While there appears to be suspicion involving sanitary or industrial-related causes, council members acknowledged no definitive public explanation has been provided yet.

The discussion also revealed that the Ohio EPA may be involved in broader permit reviews and potential compliance issues connected to at least one unidentified business.

Council members said they hope to provide residents with a more detailed statement from city utility officials at an upcoming meeting.

For affected homeowners, the concern goes beyond inconvenience. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about quality of life, outdoor activity disruptions, and uncertainty about what exactly they may be breathing on certain days.

📰 Power Reliability Concerns Push Mentor Infrastructure Upgrades Forward

MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor officials say FirstEnergy is planning electrical infrastructure upgrades in parts of the city after years of resident complaints about outages and reliability problems. The improvements are aimed at reducing storm-related outages and improving service in neighborhoods affected by aging equipment and heavy tree coverage.

Residents have expressed frustration over repeated power interruptions, spoiled food and communication during outages. Officials encouraged homeowners to continue reporting recurring outage issues so problem areas can be prioritized as planning and assessments continue.

📰 Willoughby Included in Statewide Human Trafficking Sting

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A statewide human trafficking operation led by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office resulted in 122 arrests across 15 counties, including cases tied to Willoughby.

During the May 13-20 operation, authorities arrested 38 people on felony charges involving prostitution, trafficking, attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and drug offenses. Another 84 people were charged with solicitation-related crimes.

Investigators executed search warrants at suspected massage parlors, including Oriental Spa in Willoughby, where about $30,000 was seized.

Selling One Home While Buying Another? Here’s What to Know

For many homeowners in Mentor, Ohio, moving isn’t about leaving town—it’s about finding the next right fit within the community.

Maybe the kids have moved out and the house suddenly feels too large. Maybe a growing family needs more space. Or maybe homeowners simply want a different neighborhood, ranch layout, or lower-maintenance property.

But moving within Mentor can create one major stress point:

—- trying to sell and buy at the same time.

And honestly, this is where many people feel overwhelmed.

One of the biggest fears homeowners face is timing:

  • “What if our current home sells too quickly?”

  • “What if we can’t find another house in time?”

  • “What if we buy first and carry two payments?”

The good news is that today’s housing market has become a little more manageable than the frenzy years, giving many buyers and sellers more flexibility than they had a few years ago.

One strategy many local homeowners are using right now is preparing their current home early—even before actively searching. That means:

  • decluttering,

  • handling small repairs,

  • understanding their home’s likely value,

  • and reviewing finances ahead of time.

That preparation creates options later.

Another important shift in today’s market: buyers are becoming more selective, which means homes that are clean, well-maintained, and realistically priced tend to stand out more than ever.

And increasingly, local homeowners are discovering that moving doesn’t always require finding a “dream home.” Sometimes the smartest move is simply finding a home that better fits the next stage of life while keeping monthly costs comfortable.

The homeowners experiencing the least stress right now usually aren’t the ones perfectly timing the market.

They’re the ones planning ahead before they ever put the first sign in the yard.

👉🏻 Our full website article explores how Mentor homeowners are coordinating home sales, managing timing concerns, reducing moving stress, and making smarter transition decisions in today’s housing market.
