🏘️ The Home Upgrades You'll Enjoy Every Day—Not Just on Resale Day

When homeowners think about improvements, the conversation usually starts with one question: Will it increase the home's value?

That's a reasonable thing to consider. But most homeowners in Mentor aren't preparing to sell this summer. They're planning to enjoy where they live.

That shifts the conversation toward a different question: What improvements actually make everyday life better?

Many of the upgrades people appreciate most have little to do with resale value and everything to do with how often they use their homes.

Take shade, for example. Many Mentor homeowners have patios, decks, or backyard seating areas that sit empty during the hottest part of the day. A pergola, shade sail, large umbrella, or even a strategically planted tree can completely change that. Suddenly, a space that's avoided in the afternoon becomes somewhere people actually want to spend time.

Outdoor lighting creates a similar effect.

A few well-placed lights can turn a deck or patio into an evening gathering space. Families stay outside longer. Neighbors linger after dinner. Summer nights feel a little less rushed.

Screened porches are another favorite among Northeast Ohio homeowners. They offer fresh air without the constant battle against mosquitoes that seem to arrive right around sunset.

Even a simple fire pit can change how a yard gets used. Cool evenings become opportunities to gather, talk, and spend time together.

The common thread isn't return on investment. It's return on enjoyment.

Ask homeowners about their favorite improvement and they rarely start by talking about property values. They talk about the morning coffee they now drink on the porch. The dinners eaten outside. The backyard gatherings that happen more often than they used to.

The best home improvements often aren't the ones that impress future buyers.

They're the ones that help you enjoy your home more today.

👉 In our full website article, we'll explore why some projects create lasting happiness, the home upgrades Northeast Ohio homeowners rarely regret, and why many wish they'd done them years sooner.

⚾ Bellinger Delivers in 10th as Yankees Outlast Guardians 7-5

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-5 in 10 innings Monday night, with Cody Bellinger delivering a two-run single in the decisive frame.

With the game tied at 5-5, Ali Sánchez started the 10th as the automatic runner. After Ben Rice was intentionally walked and Max Schuemann reached to load the bases, Bellinger lined a two-run single to left, scoring Sánchez and Rice.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the first and added the game-tying RBI in the eighth. Ryan McMahon also homered for New York.

Cleveland took a 5-4 lead in the fifth on Angel Martínez’s two-run homer, but the Yankees responded late to force extra innings.

David Bednar earned the win with 1 2/3 hitless innings and three strikeouts as New York secured its first extra-inning victory of the season.

The series continues Tuesday with Gerrit Cole scheduled to start for the Yankees against Cleveland’s Slade Cecconi.
